So this whole NES take a liberal or anti to the range thing is kinda stupid ,right ?

An anti is one thing , the press is another.
Never talk to the press.
Even if she did really go to the range , the story was already written and the range trip was just a checkbox to try and legitimize it.

And if she shot something like an M1 Garand she would be complaining how the rounds are too powerful and it was used in the military military weapon. She would have found an excuse to try and blame a water pistol and have it banned because it looks like a gun.
