Picking up my first AK, used, its coming with 2-30 rounders. Are there any necessary things I should get along with it? (already got 1k rounds of Wolf coming)

I was thinking a front sight tool. And maybe one of those retaining plates for the trigger group.

I plan on tearing it down and cleaning it up before running it.

Thanks guys.

Yes it has sling and the mount on the side of the receiver. Even has the tool kit and rod.

I don't want to do too much to it, just run it and enjoy it.

Unless you're planning on swapping out the FCG you won't need a retaining plate. A front sight tool might come in handy.

What is it? Saiga, Vepr, AMD 65, Maadi, GP 75, WASR?

Wasr 10/63. Shop had a few so I picked the cleanest, straightest one he had.

Why do that? It's an AK...throw it in a snowbank, pick it up, load it and then start shooting.
Always do it with all my gun purchases. I guess with an AK it's not really necessary. Lol

i would recommend a "TAPCO G2" trigger upgrade. and if your handy look up how to polish and smooth it out before installing. once done it makes for a very light and smooth trigger.

I love the traditional look of the ak but the one thing i did change on my mine was the grip. The stock ak grip is tiny, thin and uncomfortable. I like something a little bigger and with finger grooves, they are more comfortable and i dont feel i need a death grip to manipulate the gun. I got an isreali one but i may order a hogue in tbe near future.

Oh yeah, only other thing i changed was to put a rear peep sight on it, didnt change the look and i like it for faster target acquisition.

Try a regular Saiga stock, as in, shotgun pistol grip rather than AK 47 pistol grip. I have a length of pull problem with the standard AK pistol grip, but the Saiga stock isn't a problem. The Saigas also have a higher comb which comes in handy.

Check out the MD Arms Molot style grip. I use one on my 308 Saiga because I like a little more control with heavier rounds.

As far as 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 go, I think they're light enough and don't need beefing up.

If your gun has trigger slap - hurts after a while - this is the way to go. Definitely worth the $30. Enjoy!

Sounds like you're pretty much set then until you get some time behind the trigger and figure out if you like the grip or the stock length, or the sight style.

There's a "hollow" acoustic effect to a 7.62x39 AKM going off. That combined with the mechanical feedback of the bolt carrier and gas piston make it fairly unique.

I am picking it up in a couple hours. I have about 100 rounds to try it with, and my 1k round case will be here beginning of the week. I cannot wait.

Thanks for all the help and tips.

One last question, it has a tacked on nut over the barrel threads. Is it worth getting a cheap muzzle brake for it? Its cheap money and I know where I can have it done on the extra cheap.
