Guide to gun rights in your Massachusetts town

That's odd. The Chief (Riello) was a pretty solid RED in Pittsfield before he went to Falmouth.

I've said it 100 times if I've said it once! Chiefs frequently take "marching orders from above". They don't get to make all the administrative decisions, like many think.

Oxford is GREEN!

It's been mentioned on the list before but it was quite some time ago. I figured I'd reinforce. The process was easy with no interview. In fact, I never spoke with an officer. Got my LTC A No Restrictions in just 4 weeks and 2 days in the mail.

Plymouth is still green!

It took just over 9 weeks, but I got my unrestricted class A in the mail today.

I did call on Monday to ask and left a message. Never got a call back. Not sure if it arrived because of the message or not, but either way I'm happy.

Somerville is GREEN Just got my LTC Class A with no restriction after 3 weeks.

any connections or special circumstances regarding your application? Typical history shows Somerville as not being qutie green, but there is always a chance for a town to change!

No, special circumstances. Never owned a gun in the USA before, but told them that I have my handgun license in Canada. Maybe they've decided that with the recent overturn of the Chicago handgun ban that they should green light everyone?

That would prudent of them.

Business owner in the area? Not to get personal, but any physical disabilities? (Wheelchair, crutches, etc? Only reason I mention this is in some cases it causes the licensing people to act differently... )

Slummerville giving some an unrestricted A is highly unusual. They are normally a stiff "downgrade on renewal" town making them "blood red".

Heh, physically fine specimen here...

Wow, maybe there is something positive going on there. With respect, I am going to keep it red for the time being. If I hear some more good news out of Somerville I will gladly and proudly change it to green.

Thanks for the info.

This is delightful new. I've had some Somerville students recently and I've encouraged them to ask for ALP licenses. I shall be even more enthusiastic going forward.

Planning on going for LTC A do you know if that still applies today?

Thanks

If you're referring to Quincy, I just picked mine up a couple days ago. Entire process was smooth, everyone was friendly and helpful, and the wait time estimate was pretty good (they told me 4-5 weeks).

North Andover may be mislabeled in red. While definitely a hassle in terms of waiting for an appointment etc I had no issue whatsoever in obtaining my Class A

what restrictions are on your class A? The colors of red and green pertain to the restrictions on the Class A, not class A versus class B...

Sorry about that, I was trying to post this to C-pher who had commented on North Attleboro.
But thank you for the response.

Question to you, you say they told you 4-5 weeks, was that when you found out yes or no you were approved or did they give you an answer then said it would take 4-5 to go through?

kpaul,

I'm not C-pher (thank goodness [wink] [laugh] ) and I've never lived in NA, but see my post of yesterday wrt that town. Police Pistol League trophies in the lobby are a good indicator of their attitude towards gun rights for civilians. [thumbsup]

Nobody can tell you "you pass, just wait 4-5 weeks" at the time you apply. It is during that time that they run your BOP, III, mental health department and have the FBI check your prints, etc. That's part of the process.

So when someone tells you "4-5 weeks' that is the time-frame when you can expect a permit in your hand.

Good luck.

I have been informed that in Newton I have to meet with a Lt. and he is likely, ontop of the interview, to give me a pop quiz. *Has anyone here, from Newton, done this? *I'm just wondering if you can give me a heads up on the kind of information he asks.

There ya go.

Too zblang, use Advanced Search on Newton for the past Month, looking for POSTS only (not threads) . . . I recall someone recently posting their experience applying there. They "flunked the verbal test" and was sent home to study the laws again and come back another day.
