I have heard anecdotal information that Cambridge has loosened up considerably. A fellow at the range stated his daughter had no issues getting a class A LTC.
A coworker told me he got unrestricted out of Cambridge too (within the last year).

To the best of my knowledge South Hadley does not ask for anything which is not in the state guidelines. I am assuming that he does have a certificate of training from an approved source. If not, Personal Defense Specialists in the town can take care of him. I have to renew this summer myself.

Sue, Mil training does not meet MA gun law standards, it must be either a BFS Certificate or a MA Hunter Safety Certificate under MGLs.
During the initial interview does the LPD normally take photos and finger prints?
I can't speak to what any particular PD is doing on initial interview, but I can tell you that they can't "hit send" and submit an app to the state w/o the prints and picture.
So if they don't do it at the initial interview the applicant must waste another trip (and more time) before their app gets processed.
FYI... New Bedford followed through on their policy of only issuing restricted to first time applicants, in spite of my perfectly clean record, long history of responsible gun ownership in another state, recent live fire training course, Hunter Education course (from MO), and my required letter to the Chief stating my reasons for applying for an unrestricted LTC-A (Treasurer for a non-profit, Treasurer for a PAC, often required to carry large amounts of cash/checks after events & fundraisers). Nothing mattered. LO said that they "might" lift the sporting restriction upon renewal.![]()

Received my class A unrestricted last week. The process with Dedham took approx. 8 weeks from start to finish and was relatively painless.Had my meeting with the Chief at the beginning of the week. It went well, he just asked a few questions about gun storage and my military service. I applied for an unrestricted class A . He said everything looked good and I should receive my license in approx. 2 weeks.

I don't know anybody. I recently moved from Colorado after a deployment. Chief seemed to like my military service. It seemed to set him at ease.Do you know someone? Historically these guys have been pains in the ass. Maybe things are changing for the better.
Good on Chief Haglund!Because of overwhelming response, Topsfield Chief Haglund (formerly of Pelham) has decided to hold multiple Firearms Safety Courses in order that all residents that want the training can attend.
Same on my end. Chief was really good to deal with.He has his hunter safety also. We were just wondering if the South Hadley chief had you jump through more hoops. Our chief doesn't.
That's history. All of the recent reports we've seen from Dedham indicate that they issue unrestricted. They should be changed to green.Do you know someone? Historically these guys have been pains in the ass. Maybe things are changing for the better.
