Jimmy Hoffa

I just heard this story Friday. JUST HEARD IT! Now, Pop was a straight shooter, but there is a lot of doubt in this - gotta go back check it. Funny either way.

My wife's grandfather was a Teamster from long ago.

At one point, his marriage was a tad rocky. 4 kids at home. Lots of pressure. He was planning on leaving.

Was at a local Teamster meeting/rally. Met Hoffa there. Hoffa asks, "What's your biggest worry right now?"

Pop says, "My home life. I'm thinking of leaving my wife and kids."

Hoffa says, "That's #%%@%@@#$. You go back and make it right. Your job is to take care of your family!"

So he did. Jimmy Hoffa saved my wife's grandparent's marriage. LOL

I loved my grandparents-in-law possibly more than my own grandparents. Knew Pop for a long time. NEVER heard that story. Wife told it to me last friday. I have to call Uncle Bill and confirm this.

It's a really really good book. I'm not convinced of his story, but a GOOD book.

I suspect with the Thanksgiving Eve release, Netflix is gonna bust open the Bird Box #'s they scored last year. Equivalent to a billion dollars in theater revenue maybe? What's that? 71M views? No question they'll get it.

Will I watch? Yes. Am I looking forward to it? Actually no. Can we not have DeNiro and the little guy in EVERY mob movie???

EDIT - and the story of how Hoffa saved my wife's grandparent's marriage is 100% true. LOL. For Hoffa, it was an off-hand 1 minute conversation with a driver. For Pop it was somewhat life-changing. He wasn't some lieutenant or something. He was just a driver at a rally and looked glum or something and Hoffa engaged him.

I saw the movie at the theater and then watched it again at home right after.
It was a great movie. I didn't pee for 4 hours. I hope I don't have a kidney stone.
Movie is 3.5 hours.

You'll appreciate the movie more the second time.

The CGI on the aging and making characters younger was amazing.

The sets and scenes were groundbreaking CGI but you'll never know they were done by hundreds of digital artists.

great book, movie was meh. Maybe Scorcese looks a bit dated now. DeNiro was ok. Pacino mailed it in. Jack Nicholson played a way better Hoffa.

Concur, bmac. The last 45 min dragged. From the time that he gets on the plane to the end should have been 15 min tops. It was like Scorcese was never sure if the movie was about the mob or Sheehan or Hoffa or what. So he wandered around for 45 min. Similar wrap-up in Goodfellas and Casino were brief but spot-on.

Who said he "bought" them?

Right. After they shot him, they changed his clothes into K-Mart Blue Light Specials (this is the daily "let's see how old you are" reference) because they were putting him into a drum and dropping him in the never-going-to-be-this-low-again Lake Mead.

They also brushed his teeth and painted his fingernails. LOL
