Kahr PM9 good or bad?

I have a CM9 and the only thing I don't like about it are the mags don't drop cleanly. I have about 6 mags for it and only one will drop. I've read on the kahrtalk forums that it's a known issue and people squueze their mags thinner and wax them to get them to drop more cleanly. I worked on one a little bit but didn't see much difference.

I wish it weren't that way. I like the gun otherwise, but for a carry gun, quick mag changes are high on my list so it's turned into a safe queen.

I just checked. Both my mags drop free. Could it be a CM thing?

So every one here thinks its a great gun. I wonder why groups on other forms have more of a mixed view. Were there issues early on that were solved by the time the mass version came about?

Kahr definitely had issues starting up production of the P9. The frame of my PM9 doesn't look particularly straight, but it works. I think my MK9 is a better made gun, but it is too heavy and thus is not as good a pocket gun.

I think a lot of the bad reviews also stem from the break in period. There can be some issues as it breaks in for the first hundred rounds or so. When it was first introduced I don't think it was all that well known. Now though, folks know it has this break in period and can easily send 100 rounds downrange in one visit.

I also want to add that mine is a MA version and the mags drop free. I'm not sure if it was like this from the get go or not. I haven't modified the gun or mags in any way.

I carry my PM9 almost every day, with a spare magazine or two on the other side. It sits in either a Crossbreed SuperTuck, in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster, or in an ankle holster. If I'm carrying my Glock, it is my BUG.

I have the MA version with the night sights... amazingly, there's this switch on the side that I never use...

I'm very pleased with it. It broke in flawlessly. I think that some of the nay-sayers are complaining about the price compared to other 9MMs. Additionally, there was some issues / questions about the length of the trigger pulls.

The Kahr K9 was approved for use by the NYPD as their backup sidearm. The length of the trigger pull was dictated by the NYPD, and many of the older Kahrs had that trigger. Eventually, Kahr started selling handguns with the "Elite" trigger (with only a slightly shorter length of pull). Unfortunately, there wasn't a way to tell which guns had the NYC trigger, and which had the Elite trigger, so I think that that confusion turned off some people.

I'm guessing that those that are not fans of the Kahrs developed that dislike "way back when," and those that are fans are newer users.

To add to my post above, now all Kahrs come with the "Elite" trigger, and they've been dropped from the NYC list of approved backup guns.

The Kahr trigger is more like a revolver trigger than the trigger on most striker-fired guns. It is long and smooth. The reset is long as well, which can make it harder to make quick, accurate shots with the gun. Still, I think it is a great pocket gun.

Any idea on how long pm/cm 9's should last (rounds fired) with regular pressure ammo. Not like im going to shoot thousands of rounds (out of that gun anyway), but it seems pretty stout for such a small gun.

The rail system looks interesting. Is Kahr the only one useing the duel rail system? It rides on more metal than a glock. Besides springs I dont know what could wear out quickly.

Every 1000-1500 they recommend Change the recoil spring, I don't think I'm going to shoot that much ammo with it,is not a range gun

I somewhat agree with this to an extent. I think the trigger isn't THAT long. Not sure if the non MA kahrs have the same trigger or not, I haven't had a chance to physically compare. Just from reading the MA version is supposed to have come equip with the "Elite" trigger lmao as other members have stated. This from what kahr says makes the trigger pull "30%" lighter. The PM9 to me is the ultimate pocketable 9mm pistol on the market ATM. The Sig P938 might give it a run for its money but different platform and not yet MA compliant. plus.... nite sights model is a big plus to me!

I think the reset is long compared to the short reset of a Glock trigger -- long enough that it slows down follow up shots. That said, it is a lot smoother than a Glock trigger and the Glock 26 is just way too thick for me to pocket carry. YMMV.

I just fired another 50 rounds out of the PM9 tonight. What a great gun. I shot it side by side with a glock 19. Accuracy wise it was pretty even from the distances we were shooting from. This seems to be such a solid little shooter. No issues what so ever. I sling shot to load in the chamber every time no probloms. Both the 6 and 7 rounds mags worked perfectly. I just couldent be happier with this gun.

I hope it continues to be reliable. If it does I think I have found the perfect carry gun.As many of you already have.
