I regularly encounter people in this state who think average Joe's can just walk into the store and buy a fully auto machine gun for short money.

The lack of education on the topic and propaganda is the biggest problem.
Semi auto used for over 100 years is now deemed “Assault Style” full auto.

Texting with a buddy this morning who works at an FFL. Because of this bill they are very likely to shut down.

Massachusetts, making law abiding citizens become felons, and costing hard working guys their jobs.
Yes, the new law hit dealers much much harder than individual gun owners. Unlike individuals, the FFLs are subject to immediate regulation and scrutiny of their business practices. Capping the supply of assault types of weapon will have a similar effect of Hughes amendment on full-autos. It won't be as effective because MA won't be able to spend the money on the 'registry' and its enforcement, but the dealers will be easily scared into compliance and firearm commerce as we know it, will wilt into non-existence.

Yup, lets do what we can to kill an entire industry! And with our history of gun manufactures that started here...

Its a total slap in the face of history.

The goal is to drive all gun manufactures out of mass an close the rest down (dealers, distributors etc) and make it as difficult as it can be to buy/own/use firearms in this god forsaken state.

Healey’s proclamation didn’t say that pre-decree ARs are legally owned, it said that they won’t prosecute, implying (if not actually stating) that they’re not legally owned.
This is exactly what I have been saying - that the position of Mass was that there never was any method to cure the issues with compliance modifications.
At that point those persons that had purchased compliant guns had standing on an ex post facto claim since the state had allowed two decades of sales without question.
Once the state's position was known, any procurements would be with full knowledge that the state considered them banned guns.

Can the cops just take shit to bonded warehouses without and FFL being a middle man now in this bill?

I was thinking of leaving some heirloom stuff up here....now....not so sure. I gotta take a separate run with deer heads....might as well just take the rest of the guns on that trip, but wasn't planning on it.

Im worried about him being the only LTC holder in the house, and a medical issue and them taking the guns. I had my buddy the FFL on speeddial in case...but now...I don't know if that's good enough.
There is currently no requirement for them to hold guns for your FFL and this doesn't change.

Most people that I know that don't own firearms are not necessarily opposed to them, they just don't feel a personal need to own them.

I also find they believe they could legally acquire firearms if the need arose, and it is that belief that I have addressed when speaking with a couple of them in the last few days. Telling them should you need them you will now never have the option to buy modern effective rifles, in fact the most common rifle designs in the U.S..

If our non gun owning acquaintances ask how does this law affect them then tell that, and while perhaps hyperbolic also remind them that the same Governor who suggested they house illegal aliens in their home now wants to make sure they don't have access to firearms in the future. A future where a "suggestion" can become a decree.

And they can’t buy squat until they get training (now with some live fire crap), apply for an LTC, pay monies, and go thru background checks. Then wait for said license.

Most other states you just walk in do the 4473 and walk out. No bullshit roster, nada.

Thank you for the concise summary @CrackPot . Greatly appreciated.

Correct me if I'm wrong but under the new language, a permanently fixed mag AR (built that way post 2016 with Mean Arms Lock, not manufactured as fixed mag) would be considered a copy/duplicate as SECTION 16 (f) states a copy/duplicate shall mean a firearm that was manufactured or subsequently configured with an ability to accept a detachable magazine. Therefore it would be illegal under the new laws. But, that fixed mag configuration is currently legal to own. Will it be legal to own if the law takes effect after 8/1/24?
A properly produced fixed mag lower for compliance should lack some of the features required for a standard mag release to be mounted - therefore it would have never been able to accept a detachable magazine and would require machining to modify it to do so (not readily convertible)

But what you call "the position of Mass" was just the opinion of the then AG who doesn't make law, the actual law didn't clarify that point at all,
"the state" is also the governor, legislature and judiciary...

+ transfer fee or $35 or so, unless you know a guy
The second post of 80% was $60 each - $5 is worth it to not have to machine out the lower

And many shops aren't going to charge you $35 for each lower when transferring a bunch at one time.

I think no one has issue with that and its all a very personal decision to move. Im moving for the freedom to be closer to family. Perks are wife is getting a big raise, no income taxes, I cash out of my real estate and buy where we want, and I can take some time off or totally retire. I can visit my kids anytime I want and stay with them in CT or NC if I'm not working. Or my parents up in MA. Getting the foot off of my throat with guns is just a perk for me in all this. Its not a need......

People telling anyone to move just because of this bill are retarded..........realistically if your all about gun freedom you should have moved a long time ago.

We've had erosion of gun freedom and freedom in general ever since I've been in this state. But like you, with land, in red area of the state...its tolerable....and honestly after this will continue to be probably as the pol tards won't know which end is up with all these new laws for at least a year or more. These laws are for pantshitters, and we have no lack of them in MA.

Dealers will be taking this one hard if there are even any left after this, and that will be the problem......
Good luck on your early retirement bro. Smart move.
