...........may be interested in checking out www.marines.togetherweserved.com for comraderie and an upcoming trip to Washington, DC to visit the Pentagon, 8th and I, the Marine Corps museum and a wounded warrior visit at the Naval Hospital. The open announcement for the trip just came out tonight. Here is the link:

I cannot make the trip this year due to my wife's cancer and construction here at the house, but I thoroughly enjoyed last year's 3-day trip to Parris Island that Major Prater put together. This group is also an excellent site for reconnecting with those you served with.

Yeah, only a real Marine would pick up on that avatar. That photo was taken about 16 months ago in front of the receiving barracks at PISC during the last TWS event. We had three days aboard the Depot with the full cooperation of the Marine Corps. We ate in the chow halls, visited the training areas, watched the recruits in training, attended the Friday morning formal Colors ceremony and a graduation ceremony.

The highlight for me, though, was meeting and shaking the hands of many heroes, especially MOH winner Jack Lucas and Navy Cross winner Doc Fonseca. Jack Lucas is the youngest MOH winner in Marine Corps history, winning the medal for his actions on Iwo Jima in 1945. Doc was nominated for the MOH for his actions at An Nasiriyah in 2003, but Navy brass downgraded it to the Navy Cross. While we were at PISC last year, the Corps unveiled a new Crucible event called "Fonseca's Run", named after Doc.

I love that TWS site. It is great for meeting old buddies. I also made a lot of new friends at last year's event, which is why I'm a little sad I'm not going this year.

Derek, thank you for referring/inviting me to TWS. I have gotten back in touch with a few old buddies, and we are doing a platoon reunion in KY in October. Semper FI. The friendships I forged in the Marines have been the strongest and most lasting of my life.
