Massachusetts Rifle Association - Woburn, MA

Interested in becoming a member

Hi all,

I am interested in becoming a member at MRA. I understand they have office hours when people can drop by on Sunday mornings. I've called and left a voicemail to try and setup a tour of the facilities last week but no one replied. Is there someone from the club who could kindly give me a tour this Sunday morning? If so, please PM me [grin]

Thanks!

Sunday am 9 - 12 are std office hours. You should be able to get a tour no prob. Show up around 9am and you'll get a nice breakfast for only $4 too.

does MRA offer trap/sporting clay classes for beginners? I have a shotgun and would like to learn, but I don't want to just show up on Sunday not knowing what the hell to do.

Actually, showing up as a newbie shouldn't be a problem. New shooters are always welcome. Just let them know and they'll help you out. Everyone starts some where :)

Go down on a Wed night and get the lay of the land with trap. Little less going on then. Then come down for a Sunday 5-stand

If you can not make a Wed night then you are always welcome on a Sunday AM as well. Show up a little early and let us know that you are a new shooter and I or someone will walk you through it.

Do not worry about not knowing what you are doing...hasen't stopped me for the last couple years.

New system works great. One of the BOD members and a bunch of members painted the walls and ceiling and replaced all runner cords and rebuilt the carriages on the runners. They also put new carpet on the shooting benches. Even better to shoot in there now.

i went early this morning, set up my stuff, turned on the air handling system in Loeb, and realized that none of the lights downrange turned on. Only the lights near the door worked. Tried a couple of other light switches and those didn't work either. So I packed up my stuff, went out to the Pope range and shot for about an hour in the with my pistol. Almost slipped on my ass from the ice when I went to change targets. When I finished up, lo and behold, the lights in Loeb were working fine and it was packed with people. [hmmm]

I always hit the light switch next to the red button, that's always turned on all the lights for me (unless I've been imagining things). I haven't even seen a switch in the middle of the back wall behind the table.

I would recommend updating the website, although I will be checking out the club, $125 initiation fee + $170 dues seems to be pretty steep. May I recommend some updated pictures of all ranges and simplifying the website navigation to increase memberships? I Look forward to shooting at the club in the future.

i went this past sunday with the wife and one of my buddies, the place is great everything you need in a club! i think they even have a archery range, lmao!
the price is high, but what do you expect, not to many places that gives you this much of a wide range of ranges. from my understanding they are very strict, but i guess i would rather it that way!

I'm thinking about joining this range I just don't like the 6 month wait to use the out door rifle range. That doesn't make any sense to me.

They are in a very tight neighborhood with very close neighbors. I'm guessing that they want to make sure they have seen you shoot safely a number of times before you use the outdoor range. A single round that leaves the outdoor range could result in them being shutdown permanently.

6 months will be over before you know it. You can shoot those rifles inside in the 75 ft Loeb range.

i was going to try to stop by for office hours tonight to hopefully get a tour of the club, does anyone know if they will do that for me on Wednesday nights? also do u guys every have trouble with the club being to crowded?

Sure, there are usually a bunch of people around. Make sure you get a copy of the rules (or grab them off of the web site), since some of them might annoy you; best to read up on it and make your own call on that. (Although Braintree is also fairly rules-bound in some ways, and for similar reasons.)

There was a period of time after the new target carriers went into the Loeb range (25yd, indoor, all handgun+rifle under .50) where at any given time there would almost certainly be multiple broken lanes and possibly HVAC problems too, though more recently it's been fine. The other (.22 standard velocity only) indoor range I think I've always had to myself when there wasn't an event going.

Pope (the outdoor handgun range, also for .22 rifles) is always dead quiet; I think I've shared it all of once. The 50yd and 100/200yd outdoor ranges are restricted for new members (see debate above), but past that 50yd is actually medium-busy on weekends while 200 is quieter.

Looking for a good club, being from Salem, MA I was originally going to try Danvers Fish & Game, but they have very limited hours and no "anytime" access. Mass Rifle in Woburn is my only other option. I'd like to check it out, as I'll be submitting my membership application sunday. If anyone's a member and would be willing to give me a tour of the place please shoot me a message. Thanks guys, keep shooting!
