Hey guys got a few questions that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I was signed up to take the safety course here in March and have since been able to take the course elsewhere, I had signed up halfway through Jan and really didn’t want to wait 2 months. I have called the office multiple times (Wednesday nights and at least one Sunday mornings) at first asking what I needed to do to get the money back and give up my spot in the class. I’m honestly not really as concerned about the money as I was giving up my spot (considering I had to wait two months for a spot, I figure they would appreciate the earliest cancel). The few times I had called I was directed toward the treasurer, who is unfortunately a little harder to get in touch with about this than I had expected.

At this point I don’t really want the money back but would rather use that towards a membership as was my original plan after taking the safety course. Having gone shooting for the first time last week (and driving about an hour away to do so at a public range), I realized that I would much rather use that money ($150) towards a membership.
Now that finally brings me to my questions, haha. First of all, I am in the process of getting my LTC but do not actually have one at this point, would this prevent me from being able to start the membership process? I have completed a safety course and have the certificates.

Also, I would love to get in there at some point before committing to this to check the place out. When I signed up for the safety class I was only in the office and didn’t get to see much else. I was told when I had called asking for the money back to just “come in Sunday” but that was a couple weeks ago and I ended up getting stuck at work. Personally I would rather go “with” someone, meaning I am really uncomfortable just walking in and saying “HEY! Can you show me around?”, and inconveniencing any one. Yes, I’m a weirdo like that.

So I was wondering if there are any members here that might be willing to show me around the place and maybe let me shoot a little bit (I would obviously pay for ammo/whatever was needed) if that is not too much to ask. I figured I would give this a shot as everyone here seems to be extremely helpful with these kinds of things. Thanks in advance!!

I showed up last Sunday and asked in the office for a tour. They were very nice and showed me quite a lot, and answered a lot of questions. Sunday is when they seem to do this. Possibly also on Wed evenings. There seemed to be lots of other people in there asking for tours as well.

It would also be very helpful to actually shoot at the place as someone's guest, but I don't know any members there. I know that maybe a lot to ask, but the price of initiation and membership is pretty steep, and getting a more in-depth feel for the place would nice.

I was told that after April 1, if you start your membership, you pay a little more for the first dues, but they are effective all the way through 2013. Nice to know.

Has anyone had issues scheduling qualifications for the 50, 100, and 200 yrd ranges? I swung by the office again this morning, looking to schedule some times and was told the next time wouldn't be until May, as the person (1 person from what I gather) won't be doing it during the month of April.

Any tips? Any chance of more people from the MRA hosting qualifications??

I'm planning on dropping off my application and payment on Sunday. Does anyone know how long it typically takes from drop off to range access? Thankfully I work behind the club, so I can get over there whenever.

Thanks!

I might have missed it, but did anyone answer this question? I am waiting for my LTC to arrive in the next couple weeks (fingers crossed of course), so I wonder if I could get a start on the process. I have used the facilities a handful of times as a guest of a good friend who is a member and am quite sure I'd like join. If so, I could go as early as this next Sunday...

Your best bet is to go to the club on Sunday morning and talk to the folks in the office. Bring in a filled out application and a check in case you can start the process without having your FID yet (I THINK you can).

I just dropped off my application this past Sunday, and I won't get club access until the end of May. Get in there and sign up early!

Sounds good, thanks. Couldn't hurt to go. Did they mention what the cause for waiting until the end of May was? Is that to meet with the BOD?

Ltc not required for membership, theoretically you could join just to shoot air rifle/pistol or to use the archery range. Also, if I remember correctly, some towns ( Braintree?) want you to have a club membership before they will issue a Ltc. So, join and bring a friend with guns as a guest!

Just dropped my app and check off on Sunday, going to take nearly two months to complete the process! It's like waiting for my LTC all over! :P

Sorry to hear it will take that long, but it's only because there is a backlog of applicants. Otherwise it would be quicker . Mine was.
