I make the commute from Kingston area to Lowell area every day. I typically leave anywhere from 6:30 - 7:30 in the morning, Traffic does suck, but it is a rare occasion the commute would be more an hour. If I leave at 6:00 am the commute is usually 45 minutes, unless there is an exception (accident etc). The evening commute home is usually 1 - 1-1/4 hours.
Taxes are pretty high where I am. You might be surprised that often times border towns have lower tax rates, because they typically have more business to help with the tax burden. The tax rates in Salem and Plaistow isn't all that bad, but home prices are usually a bit higher, so once again it all comes out in the wash.
