What happens if a LGS gives you a 18 round mag with a new handgun purchase? It only came with a single mag. The person had a chance to see if there is a stopper in it, not even sure if that is a real thing. The shop didn't have any spare mags to buy so it is not like that can swap it out. It will be used by the person as a range gun at best. What advice can I pass along?

Buy a magblock and epoxy it in place.

Pistol Magazine Capacity Limiters

Options are:
- Go to your local PD and turn yourself in
- Chuck the mag in the trash and move on with your life if it makes you nervous
- Epoxy a mag block in limiting it to 10rds
- Stash the mag away for a rainy day and buy some 10rd mags
- Just keep and use the mag and stop caring about such stuff

Keep it. Only put 10 rounds in it at a time. If you ever get to the stage where a cop is looking to see if there is a mag block in it, you've got far bigger things to worry about.
I strongly disagree. There are plenty of ways that you could get investigated for which the police may not be able to make a case against you. But holding onto a post-ban magazine that is clearly postban is just handing them a felony conviction. Other stuff might have been hard for them to prove, but for many postban magazines it’s a slam dunk conviction and now you are a federally prohibited person.

It’s just not worth that risk.
