NH man arrested, Guns seized and charged for not breaking the law

That's pretty funny lol. I'm sure they would have charged him for intoxication aswell. Isn't being drunk and armed a big felony by itself? Lol

What he said ^ and that's the sorta thing I suspect, which still wrongfully so, resulted in these shenanigans. The disorderly part would be about what they'd do if a drunk person was shooting in the woods late at night.

Shooting into a tree on the ground sounds like something I'd do when I was 12. Seems pretty weird

Stick to worrying about what goes on in Lowell, or where ever you live.

The print article says "He was shooting a small tree in the ground around the tree," Doty said."

It stuck out to me immediately, however in the video he says "a small tree and the ground"

Um, no. Those are misses.

A poacher typically takes ONE shot. Shooting is plural.
If I am ducking from an errant baseball or RPG, does that mean I duck more than once?

And if I am climbing, does that mean I climbed more than once?

I thought the "ing" in "shooting" meant "in the process of", but strictly speaking, the term to use might have been "was shooting".

In our early 20's a friend of mine on dry roads ended up atop a stone wall in someone's front yard. Cops comment was "you'd have to be an idiot not to think alcohol wasn't involved in this". Probably the same here.

I dunno. I once arrived home during a blizzard to find the driveway impassable.

I went down the street, turned around and got up to an impressive speed for the conditions, then hooked a left turn into our hay field using the snow banks as a ramp to (mostly) clear the stone wall.

Then I went to bed. I spent three days digging the damned thing out. But not THAT night I didn't.

Any onlooker would have concluded I was drunk. But really just lazy.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something.

Yep, you can drive a car with your feet, but it's probably not the best idea.

Legal or not, sounds to me like the guy is an idiot.
Who the hell grabs nine guns to go out shooting at 11:30 pm? At a tree...

Sure, the cops might be ass holes, but the guy is a moron.

The article did not state if he had 9 with him, or if they went to his house to seize his entire collection.

These cops sound gay.

If I had to bet, they invested all these resources, threw a road block party, and the guy was like lolwtf?, maybe even knew enough to tell the cops to pound sand, but the cops were all bricked up and had to arrest him or beat their wives.
Kinda like when the Salem NH cop fired a shot at a guy that was uninvolved with the issue, and they charged the victim to cover their ass.

An important distinction.

ALso, could he have had a holstered sidearm, possibly another on his ankle and just maybe his pocket. His range bag from that morning maybe has three more pistols and he's actually just shooting his "arsenal" of a beat up old 10/22 and his Mosin 91.

THAT sounds pretty reasonable especially if he knows he'll just get nagged when he get's home for not taking out the trash. Why NOT plink at 11 or 12 at night?

And daylight stealing time just kicked in. He probably was still on the other schedule and hadn't gotten tired yet.

Or he's a degenerate drunk and was imagining his EMENIES while he sprayed trees with lead.

Could go either way.

started reading this thread and said to myself brings some guns to shoot when I go to my nh property tomorrow.
I was going to do just that. I have a stump that i shoot at that the only safe shooting spot right now till I set something up .

Seems to me, shutting down traffic and using bullhorns is far more disorderly than someone shooting when and where "It is not illegal to shoot". And if "Police said there was no threat to the public", then how was he being reckless, when that literally requires him to have place[d] or may place another in danger.

As usual, cops commit crimes and their victims go to jail.

Woah. It’s 2024. You can’t say that.

These cops are faggots. Totally different.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something. Sounds like that's the case here.
But just because you shouldn't do something, does not mean you should be arrested for it, if it's not unlawful.

The "should not do something" standard is subjective - if I want to appendix carry, or rest the barrel of my shottie on my boot on the Trap line, and you don't think I should, you may politely lump it.

Personally, I don't think that a 1911 should be carried cocked, but I'll not tell you to stop.

What law did Woodsy Nightowl break?

Dude....those were NOT misses. Those worms and voles and millipedes were coming for him, with bad intent.

“Disorderly conduct” is so broadly defined that you can be arrested for it pretty much on a whim. For example, the New Hamster statute includes the following language:

“Making loud or unreasonable noises in a public place, or making loud or unreasonable noises in a private place which can be heard in a public place or other private places, which noises would disturb a person of average sensibilities.”

Since every cop consider themselves to be “a person of average sensibilities,” almost any time you fire a weapon outside of a range you risk arrest.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Well, I guess that he's screwed.

As are people with leaf blowers.
