I broke my back last year in a slip & fall and been stuck in the health care morass. [sad] I'm scheduled for a spinal fusion tomorrow. While I have faith in modern medicine I'm apprehensive about going under the knife. I've been lucky and have had a few health issues from an earlier bad accident which gave me a TBI, compound fracture of my skull,14 busted ribs and traumatic amnesia. I've got a good medical team, but they want to drill into my spine and implant rods to hold my back straight. I haven't been in a hospital voluntarily in quite some time so I'm more than a little apprehensive about this, but it'd be better to get this fixed ASAP.
I'm scheduled for a 7 AM "procedure" I've got my son coming over to watch the house while I'm in the OR and hopefully I'll be discharged 24 hours later. I'll check back here once I get out. Prayers, good karma / vibes appreciated! Hopefully the nurses are cute. [laugh]

Wishing you the best, I hope the surgery goes well and hope it is successful for you long term.

I knew a guy at a previous job that had multiple back surgeries to fix what ailed him and eventually had a spinal fusion. It helped him for the most part. He did lose some range of motion which is what he mostly complained about after he recovered.

In talking with people I meet, I am constantly amazed at medical progress during my lifetime. So much has happened in just the last ten years. Your procedure would have been groundbreaking 30 years ago, but now I bet your doctor's team has it down to a routine! That's good for you as they know what they are doing and what to expect.
I and the rest of us will be waiting to hear back from you.
Good luck and keep a positive attitude.
Remember, laughter is the best medicine.

Good luck, the two guys I know who have done it, one with a plate and one without, both do not regret the decision but the guy who has the plate has to eat a morphine pill every morning in order to work, whereas before he had to eat 2 a day to be able to exist and then sleep.

Next time I go to Maine maybe I can deliver you some 500 MG bliss from Kind Farms.
