I thought PayPal didn't allow firearms related purchases?

They might have changed their policies, I was on Optics Planet yesterday and I bought a Daniel Defense Upper, usually when I hit PayPal the charges go right to my CC that I have linked to my PayPal account.

Well after I looked at my invoice this afternoon when it shipped, the payment hit my PayPal credit for some reason, I double checked and my PayPal credit has a balance for $1200 interest free for 6 months, I must have hit that by mistake and it worked idk

Is this Weird or am I wrong about PayPal, I swore they didn't allow firearms parts purchases.

Not a big deal I was going to pay it off this week anyways but just curious if any of you ever tried PayPal and it worked or not.

Seems like I've bought parts and/or accessories via Paypal. They must have read the mean tweets on NES. [laugh]

Personally, the convenience and security of paying from my bank account via a 3rd party is much preferred over entering my debit card info into multiple vendor systems. A lot of the guys here have bitched about Paypal but Paypal never rose to a boycott level for me.

It seems Paypal let's most everything go through unless it is truly obvious.
I have never had any problems purchasing any gun parts or firearms related products from any vender using PayPal.

I doubt PP changed their policies. My guess is that DD Upper would absolutely fall under "certain firearm parts or accessories" that PP considers outside of their acceptable use policy. They never published the list though, afaik.

Optics Planet likely mislabeled the upper as PP eligible in their system, and PP probably does not monitor all vendor transactions.

Why would you enter you debit card info anywhere anyway? Use your Credit Card - free 30+ day float, 1+% discount through points, and your bank account is safe if the CC is compromised.

My opticsplanet account has always used paypal. Optics planet is a scaled up discount retailer/club of all things. Actually I need a 120vac breaker box for a boat that was within $20 of anyone else there - I may buy there since I think by the end of the purchase it's probably like $40 less in my overall spend since OP has a zillion perks & discounts.

Kinda like buying gun parts on ebay - they very well may have a policy with PayPal + Gunz but it's easy enough to ignore as this is their business - to shift $$ around and make a little juice.

I have my CC linked to my account I never mentioned my debit card.

I always use CC to get the rewards points but I must have hit the PayPal Credit my mistake

I've been selling gun parts with paypal for over 10 years. I've heard about guys getting their accounts locked but it's never happened to me. I have over 1500 positive feedback on akfiles.com. probably done $10,000 in transactions over the years

Probably this. PayPal has to know (or somehow figure out) that the item violates their anti-2A policy before they can stop the transaction from happening... or find out later, freeze your account and ban you for life like they did to me.

Not all things "Gunz" are banned under their anti-2A policy. Is there a list? Nope. Like Maura's secret CMR list, you have to guess or find out from others.

Debit card question was for Mountain, he mentioned he has it linked to PP.

You got free credit from an anti-gun company for 6 month on a nice upper, you did good! 😀

It will be interesting to see if they do find out and ban me, I probably have over a hundred grand in transactions over the past several years so if they want to ban me they can lose the business and F'K right off lol

Optic planet sucks
I have had nothing but positive experiences with them, the only time I refuse to entertain a purchase from them is if something is either back ordered or gives a "Will Ship in amount of days" the sales are pretty good and the bucks you can earn is good as well, to each their own of course

Do you ask people for certain notes or no notes when sending funds? Maybe they don't bother looking at smaller items .

People still use it a lot to sell stuff. They try mitigating the risk by asking for no notes, keeping a separate bank account for PP use only, and transferring money asap from PP balance to the bank, then to a different account. But even then, they are still only one stupid or dissatisfied buyer away from a lock.

I have used PayPal for a number of magazine and other gun-related purchases (grips, sights, etc.) on eBay -- never a problem.
Several advantages to PayPal:
  • Your credit card / bank info remains confidential.
  • Fairly strong money-back guarantee if anything goes wrong with your purchase.
As long as you don't try to purchase an actual firearm you're probably OK
That being said I did look up their firearm policy:
PayPal does not allow any purchases of guns or gun paraphernalia. Their official policy prohibits all firearms, working or not, from being bought or sold, as well as any part of a firearm or any ammunition.

This would appear to conflict with mine and others experiences. PayPal probably handles millions of transactions a day so they cannot monitor everything.

They would not go after you, at most they will ask vendor to categorize things properly next time. But why are you feeding the beast with $100K+ in transactions? Are you accepting PP or paying with PP? Can you do the same without them?

Honestly 90% of it is related to Draft Kings gambling, I do the taxes straight up but it's easier for me and some friends to exchange funds.

Also I have the PayPal line of credit to get 6 months interest free loans to pay federal taxes while my money is earning 4.5% interest

The key thing with OP is they are on the Good and Cheap corners of the Good Fast Cheap triangle. I use them when I can wait - unlike other sites they will give you a screaming deal on backordered stuff that someone else might raise prices on. I got enough guns, never need anything rushed - I'd rather pay less.

They froze my account and banned me for life about a month after my offending sale. It was tough because I was doing a lot of snowplowing at the time and my clients generally preferred to pay me via PayPal.

I get the impression from comments here and elsewhere that PayPal errs on the side of looking the other way when it involves its larger accounts. No sense in killing your important business relationships with strict anti-2A virtue signalling when you can simply claim that you didn't know what was transacted. 🤔

Yup. I check prices on OP all the time when price comparing. Their prices can sometimes be unbeatable. I do try to spend most of my money with smaller shops and with the tax savings, it's often close enough.

But for some items that I can wait for, then I'll give OP some business. I just never plan to have it within a week... heck I've had backordered items for a year with them, but that price lock worked in my favor several times.

Yeah and they have all these crazy added discounts and programs, now you are VIP, here's some bucks, here's another 10% off the 20% off price we list :) - it's actually insane but I'll play the game when a lower production sorta barrel with a list price of $399 gets shipped to me for closer to $200. I swear they lose $$ on certain things.

Using PayPal for gun related purchases is not a risk for the buyer so much a risk for the seller. Yes, they might shut down your account for violation of terms, but in practice they always hit the seller. They are the "real" problem since one seller may sell to 100s of people and you the buyer are not going to make 100s of purchases.

A well known dealer here on NES got his PayPal/Venmo shut down when first a customer put a cryptic notation consistent with a gun model in a purchase. He appealed claiming it was something else. The very next week, essentially at his direction, a customer put "blow job" as what was purchased. PayPal/Venmo did not have a sense of humor and that was that.

The purchasers had no issues.

Virtual CC and 1.5% back FTW!!

F*ck dealing with PayPal and their POS customer service.

I recently bought some shirts. The company sent the wrong shirts, they had a 2 week return policy. I contacted them immediately, tried 4 times but they kept delaying communication.

Finally I opened a case with PayPal. Motherf*ckers took 1 month to resolve it and resolved it in favor of the merchant.

All I wanted was a U.S address to return them, c*nts kept giving me some Chinese address that would have cost more than the shirts. I wasn't even asking for pre-paid shipping.

So, anyway, f*ck them.

Not even sure why I used them for that one purchase.

If you want to shut down your account on appeal, substituting one prohibited use with another is a good way to do it. Should have went for trifecta and added something else from the list though!

:)
