K-Dub, you just might want to say, "no plastic here...yet!"

Once you get one Glock, you might quickly find you have a whole mess of 'em in your safe!

Darius, I have shot a few, & the one I liked best was a .357 (model 31, I think). I wouldn't mind having one, but it's not on the top of my list. I recently, however, got my first 1911, & I think I'm hooked. [smile] I have to save room in the safe for the impending 1911 collection.

But, interestingly, every time I pick up a Glock and actually shoot it, as another poster reported, I tend to get pretty accurate hits, almost as good as I get with a borrowed 1911. Go figure.
I see I'm not the only one. Wonder if it has to do with the different style sights? Most all of my guns have three dot sights; the Glocks have that frame-style rear sight, whatever it's called.

OTOH, my accuracy has improved with my new full-size 1911.

The Glock is an appliance, no soul, utilitarian and reliable. ...

I've never heard it expressed more concisely.

The G23 lives in a holster, the minty Colt Series 70 lives in the gunvault.
I've never even noticed if the G23 has collected some gouges.
If the Colt gets fingerprints, I get annoyed.
I suppose that I would use the Colt harder, if it were replaceable for the same price as the Glock, but I'd still probably clean it more often. [wink]

As far as Hollywood using glocks. I think they pick them because they're recognisable, and they have that horrible reputation for being evil and dangerous.

Of all the guns that I have, only two are plastic.. One Glock, and only because I shot Len's and really liked it. Any my SW99 .45. And that's a really smooth and dead on gun.

I think that hollyweird uses glock a lot for the Gansta' deal.

But when I'm watching the cop shows, I see the 92FS, and HKs..

I know a lot of you folks here are fans of 1911 style handguns, and if I could afford one i'd own one too, but I cant see ever carrying something so heavy and bulky. I use an in the pants holster and can carry my Glock 23 comfortable even while driving. Plus in the summer when I wear shorts, the weight of the gun doesn't have me constantly pulling them up the way I see some peopel I know do with steel frame guns.
Polymer frame guns to me are just lighter, more comfortable to shoot, and ideal for carry.

Well, a 1911 doesn't have to be bulky and heavy. Sure, if you get a full-size government model, you've got a full-size gun rather than a compact, but that was your choice. Get a compact model, and you've got a whole different gun. For example, a Colt Defender weighs in at 22.5 ounces with an overall length of 6.75". I've got 1911's and I love them all; the same goes for my Glocks.

What I find funny about Glocks is that many people say they dislike them because of the way the "look" yet most guns used in Hollywood are Glocks... Hollywood is all about flash so I'm curious why they choose the Glock. I'm guessing because of it's no-frills/military look???

A LOT of Law Enforcement Agencies (including Fed's) use Glocks.

I own both Plastic andNon-Plastic handguns. Latest acquisition is a non-plastic (Beretta M9). I like the 1911A1, but, frankly, I don't shoot well with it. I do pretty good with the Glock, Beretta (my Issue weapon is an M9) or even my 1917 Colt.

The 45's can be hard to conceal, but not impossible. The Glock I have is a 19, and it conceals fairly easy.

An Officer's Compact is a very easy (and nice) carry....

I used to say that if you ever saw me with a plastic gun, you'd know that Hell had frozen over!

Well, invest in fuel oil futures, cause my last purchase was a Glock 35, and after having David Bowie (Bowie Tactical Concepts) work the frame over for me and Tony and the boys at Milt Sparks run off a nice horsehide/sharkskin holster for it, it's going to all my shooting courses with me this year.

Over the course of 35 years of shooting, I've gone from Blue Steel Wheelguns Only! (I'll take a revolver, you take your chances!) to Stainless Steel Wheelguns Only!, to a grudging acceptance that "Maybe these new-fangled flat guns aren't just a passing fad after all . . "(as along as they're stainless steel flat guns) to "Kimbers are what you show your friends, but GLOCKS are what you show your enemies!

BTW, we've sold a dozen or so Beretta Storm carbines at the Gander Mountain I work at, and every single mother-loving one of them was to some kid in his early twenties.

I'm convinced that they love em because they've been conditioned by their paintball guns to think stuff like that is "cool"!

John

I had my 1911 with me yesterday after shooting at the SAS meeting. I was going into Brighton with my eldest, and hubby had me promise I'd keep the gun with me while I was in there. So, I put it in my nice gun purse and off I went. I had a few stops to make along the way. By the end of the night I was really wishing I'd had my G23 in there. That 1911 is h-e-a-v-y to cart around on your shoulder! There is a definite for plastic sometimes! [wink]

Reinbeau, do I need to point out that had you needed it, you would have been much happier with Ol' Slabsides and 8 rounds of .45 ACP goodness? [wink] Especially since you'd just been practicing with it?

Yea, I know, and the chiropractor appreciates the weekly business he gets from me for neck/shoulder pain! [rolleyes] I don't think a full magazine of 40 cals are going to do much less damage than the full mag of 45's. More flame, that's fer sher! [smile]

Holes are holes!

since theres so much talk about the younger generation using plastic guns, and hollywood, and gangsters...i feel the need to post these lyrics

I love to stay strapped
Love to squeeze gats but you don't hear me though
I love to hit the block, I love my two Glocks
Love to bust shots but you don't hear me though

haha i dont why i just posted 50 cent lyrics but i felt it was necessary in support of my favorite gun...the glock[devil]

you guys can make of me for it all you want now...im sure i deserve it[wink]

The polymers are just the most recent technology. If they could have made plastic guns in WWII that were as reliable and easy to manufacture as they are today they would have.

I like polymers, but only own two - a G19 and a P22. Everything else is steel or alloy.

I have, and have to have, both kinds. My belief is that people that avoid
either, are missing out, unless your exclusively a "square range
shooter". If i was one of those id simply have a safe with a bunch of
1911 clones in it, and that would be that.

I have a few 1911s, bunch of SIGS, 4 Glocks, and 4 HKs. All of
them are good for something.

Admittedly, I like the Glocks the least from a character standpoint. The
triggers are sub-par (IMO) but the guns go bang every time you pull the
trigger, and are -GREAT- for CCW. (Light weight, rounded corners,
narrow as possible, dense capacity, etc).

I end up carrying a G19 or G29 most of the time simply due to the size
and weight of the guns.
