Precision Air Pistol

Very nice. Does it charge from a dive tank? Our club runs a 10 meter air pistol league in the summer. I shoot an IZH-46 bought from a forum member.

In case anyone is interested I run 10-meter air pistol matches at Woburn Sportsmen's Association in Bedford, MA. They are held on the second Sunday of the month from September to April with three relays 8:30, 10:30 & 12:30 with the possibility of a 2:30 relay if needed. There are 13 firing points using Gehman electric target carriers. The matches are sanctioned by the CMP and are run as EIC matches so a shooter can become CMP Air Pistol Distinguished. One young lady last year earned Distinguished Badge #3 here. We have air tanks on site if needed.

I've been shooting 10M air at WSA's monthly match for a little while. I've got a IZH 46M (Russian surplus Olympic pistol) and really enjoying it. No knuckleheads show up, it's reasonably quiet, and the ammo is really cheap. The entry fee is VASTLY higher than the ammo, but it pays for a really nice target setup.

One thing that always distracted me when competing is keeping track of the pellets. I really wanted to make sure I got five in each target, and only five.

So I'd lay them out on the score sheet like this:

This "works", in that I am able to keep track of the shots. But it is far from ideal in that it's really easy to knock them over and then they roll all over. And they're close together so it's hard to grab one without moving adjacent ones.

So I made a thing:

It's ... overbuilt. But it works well. 1/2" thick 6061, because it's the material I have. Holes are .25" apart and .125" deep. The rows are .55" apart (because it made the spacing on the block even)

I can shake it a lot and they don't move around or fall out or anything, and it's heavy enough to not move when someone bumps the table.
I tried .050, .075, .100, and .125 deep holes; the first two are too shallow as the pellets would too easily tumble out. .100 would probably have been fine.

I haven't actually used it in a match yet, I only finished it last night. I'm looking forward to Sunday to see if it actually works as well as I hope it will.

Yours is certainly the highest-class pellet holder I've ever seen. Have you seen the "pellet shakers" most everybody has?

Yeah air gun is a bit odd. Seems void of “knuckle heads”. There can be some snobbery aka rich kids. In the mix.

I grew ip shooting air guns, mostly for squirrels . Did jr 10m at the club until MotoX bug grabbed me at 12 urs old.
I have my first red ryder. Never got into pistol …. There is some really nice stuff out there these days

Hmmm, I've never seen any rich kid snobbery in ANY shooting sport. And if there was, it was not usually by anybody that was actually winning, or even doing well, in the match. Equipment never trumps marksmanship.

Correct
Way back in jr rifle we had 2 kids that always had the latest and greatest gear
Would make fun of us for sharing jackets and rifles. In the 4 years in jr rifle I dont think more than 5 kids had their own shit.
I missed to many practices and local matches because of MotorX to get to do the travel matches
You are right shooting sports is probably the best organized event I have attended

Very memorable also

After looking at videos of the Champion's Choice version, I made a little skirt out of some sheet plastic, and tried the "dump and shake" method. It worked great! There's only two things I'd change on mine if I were to make another:
- square instead of rectangular so the skirt wouldn't only fit in one axis (this is minor)
- less pronounced chamfer on the edges, the pellets can get stuck there when shaking if I'm not careful to hold the skirt tight against the edge.

I really like the weight, it doesn't move around if nudged or bumped or the table shakes.

My best target from yesterday's match at WSA:

516-5x overall, I'm pretty happy with that.
