Random Weirdo

I think the instructor in question would have made a better case for himself if he was at least wearing some body armor, with either a fanny pack or a thigh holster and wanted to converse about the nuances of the 338..

Or perhaps a nice satin jacket with the appropriate "mall ninja tactical training inc" on the back?

That would complete the package and let you know how truly serious he is.. Nothing says legit like a plastic satin jacket with a sticker on the back...

He was probably just trying to be friendly, but with that being said, why not say you are the zip line of fire consultant for the show Top Shot.

I'm sorry, BPM... I didn't know that I was bothering you last weekend. If I had known that you were an accomplished shooter, I would have been more humble.

Next time, I'll just nod and walk on by.

The truth is that I never met you... I just couldn't resist! [grin]

Until it's used as a weappon, a gun is not a weapon
Actually, you are wrong.

Virtually every one of my handguns and half of my rifles were purchased with the explicit purpose of using them as weapons, not as sporting goods.

That they can be used as sporting goods in no way cancels the reason they were bought and paid for: to be used as weapons.

Next time, punch him in the throat.

I was at Oxford Walmart a few weeks ago, checking out the $19, 29, and 42 dollar BB guns on the wall. A pudgy, pimple faced kid comes up to me (I figured at first it was a clerk, but it was not). "He said, looking for some firepower?" I replied (not that it was any of his business) that I was looking at BB guns for the kids. He then went on to tell me how I should get an Airsoft first, as they are safer. I practically ran to another aisle. Leave me alone.

Oportunity for education of dumb kid missed;

For the inquiring minds, most cantaloupes must be sniffed to determine if they are fresh. I'm not that flexible. [shocked]

I've had lots of people comment on shooting clothing that I've been wearing. Most of it positive or just curious all of which I'm polite to. I've even had some terribly rude comments, some of which I'm polite to, some I ignore and some I tell to pound sand.

I've never had someone try and sell me something, that they couldn't articulate in the doorway of a store. It was just so odd that I simply could not tell if it was real or not. Again it was not someone that was simply curious or wanting to find out some information. Someone coming up to me asking "Hey I saw your T-Shirt, I always wanted to..." would have been fine or welcome. If the product you are selling is as bad as the pitch... well you get the drift. It was someone trying to sell me something. Maybe I'm incorrect and he was simply offering it for free or was incredibly inarticulate, but that seems a little odd.

The people that offer courses here on NES have what I consider to be the best business model. You can read about and see what they offer, you can read their posts and determine for yourself if what they are offering is worth your time and money. It's an appropriate place and has the correct context IMO.

If the person that came up to me is real, and posts on NES then I apologize. The exchange was so weird to me that I drove home a different way and doubled back to make sure no one was following me.

A kick to the jewels would have put a quick end to the situation or you could have summoned a mall cop.

B,

I was only foolin' that it was me... I know that we've got a variety of personalities here... but I would really hope that none of our characters would have made someone so uncomfortable.

No prob Rich. I could be wrong, but I didn't think it was real at the time and thus not someone that posts on NES. It was too odd to be real.

It could have been worse, he could have dropped his drawers and asked if Viagra ever did this to you?

So I'm coming out of the grocery store on Sunday. It's 8:30 at night and I'm wearing a t-shirt with something shooting related. As I'm in the door leaving a guy yells out "EXCUSE ME SIR" and mentions my t-shirt. He says that he is an NRA instructor and he begins to chat me up... well he is not really an instructor yet, he is waiting on the paperwork, but he wants to know if I'm interested in INSTRUCTION! [laugh]

Seriously dude, go hump someone else's leg! I told him to google the club and send an e-mail to the secretary and ask to be added to the list of NRA instructors that offer training. My t-shirt had "High Power Rifle Team" on it, not "NooB to GuNs." I tried to be polite.

As I'm walking away he yells out to me that he worked for Bushmaster. Wow that is frigging AWESOME! Holy shit I can hardly contain myself, wait one and let me get my i-Pad so I can add you to my spreadsheet of clueless DILDOS that work there.

I had a splitting head ache from my four year old and my weekend of happy happy family camping trip and I have a looser that is waiting on paperwork and wants to instruct me. Is it me or is it inappropriate to ambush someone?

Kids nowadays.....play Call of Duty on Xbox all day long and they become keepers of the firepower.

Anyone who tries to sell me instruction at a random meeting is suspect to me - whether it's H2H , firearms ( mine are weapons by the way ) or dog training. I seek out instruction at my own pace to find what i want. .... and reject almost everyone.

It's working for me so far. I was proud of the students who I taught karate to , fairly satisfied with my shooting , and my dogs are happy and well mannered.

I'm not even being sarcastic, this is from experience and I always wear a white T when we are going to Walmart so nobody bothers me.

Unless the sleeves are torn off, your mullet's slightly greasy and the stains on the front are asymmetrical I don't see how this would make you blend in there.

What exactly are NRA "instructors" teaching other than basic firearms safety and operation?

Considering that all that they are teaching are basic courses, more suitable for gallery/bullseye/match shooting than for self-defense, I can understand their point.
