For those of you that visit the Rangeley area

there is now a rifle and pistol range . The pit off of the Morton turn off owned by Seven Islands has been leased to the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportmans Association. I just returned from what was supposed to be a week off fishing and hiking, instead it was a week of rain and blown out rivers.

I join the range, $20.00 for a year, and filled my time shooting ( when it wasn't raining) which was infrequent.

There is a 100 yard rifle and a 25 or 50 yeard pistol range, bermed between.

The moose are on the move.

Rangely is a cool town. I haven't been up there in a few years, but I'll check out the range next time, after lunch at the Red Onion. [wink]

Very nice! And a berm behind the berm...

My last camping trip to Mount Blue State Park led me on a road trip across to Byron, up the height of land and over the CrossTown road toward Rangely. Of course, my wife and I had to stop at a sand pit and do some serious blasting.

The moose were much smaller, though.

I'm glad a range has opened up for you. My home range in Wilton is under reconstruction, so it's off to the sand pits for the summer.

I've wanted to visit the Rangeley area ever since reading Louise Dickinson Rich's "We Took to the Woods."

Great book! I'm looking at my First Edition copy in the bookshelf right now. Not so much lately, but a number of years ago I used to fish Rapid River pretty regularly and stopped by to take a look at the old Rich cabin and even paddled around Pond-in-the-River until I found the remains of the Alligator. At that time (and maybe still), Rufus was still alive and living in a small camp over near South Arm.

Good to know there's a range there. I'll have to join.

1. I'm getting married at the Log Church there on 8/22
2. My new in laws live there
3. I visit there at least 2-3 times a year
