Road trip to Greenville Maine suggestions.

It was Reds Lakeside then The Black Frog. f***ing crazy place. Total nut show. The owner started another famous place that the name escapes me now but arson couldn’t be proved and I’ll leave it at that.
Roadkill Cafe. That was the place he started. The one near the junction had a “fire”. Then he moved it into the East Cove location.

The area is loaded with them! But if you’ve never really been up that way, a cool place for you and your son to check out is the B52 crash on the east side of the lake. It’s a nice dirt road drive in and out.

But overall if you just want to cruise dirt roads, there are enough to fill a lifetime of driving. If you’re going to go for a drive, I highly suggest picking up a Maine Atlas and Gazetteer. You can pick one up at Indian Hill. Or pretty much any little store, gas station, etc etc.

If you want to see moose the bog, next to the highway garage just south of town is usually a guarantee at dusk. But, they outnumber people up there, so, it’s not hard to run into one.

If you guys want to do a little wading and maybe hook a salmon, head up Lily Bay Rd to Kakadjo and hit the roach river. The lobster roll at the trading post is surprisingly good for where you are. Although, Fred and Marie are as appealing as sour milk…..
Made it to the b52 crash site thanks for the tip! Went in pong pond road and came out scammon road. That's something you don't see every day! B52 parts strewn all over the woods. Had lunch at Kelly's it was good. Probably have dinner there too cuz we can can walk there lol. Found moosehead Lagar at Indian Hill Trading Post! Score! That was my college beer haven't seen it locally to me in a looking time. Grabbed 2 cases 😂

Glad to see you guys went to see the crash site and are enjoying the area. It’s a pretty special place to me.

Try Shipard Export. It’s at least an American beer……

The guide we had was Gary Caruso. Excellent guide. We couldn't salmon fish cuz the rivers are all super high and flooded. He took is for smallies instead. Must have caught 50 fish lol. When it's 9am and you've already lost count of how many you've landed you know it's gonna be a good day.

Have you bush whacked into Mud Pond by Prong? We keep talking about it.
No - sounds worth trying. Let me know how it went when you get to do it.
I was on Prong with the snowmobile trying to get to Mud but we had to turn back as a storm was coming in.
I did some bush whacking last year between Seboomook and Lobster lake.

There’s not many direct ways in without going past “Home of the skidded tire donut” without adding over 100 miles to the trip or running the dirt roads in here from 201. I’ve done them all. No dust after all this damn rain but I did catch a nice brookie on West Outlet yesterday but nothing out to Indian Pond on the Somerset Rd to the old flooded rail bed.

It’s a very wet day for fishing. Give a PM shout if you’re heading indoors when you’re done fishing for a cocktail or two.
seeing as you're a "local", what can you tell me about abbot, me? what's in the area and how far away is "civilization"? thx.

Abbot is a nice small quiet town on the way to Greenville. No big money areas that I’m aware of. The Piscataquis River passes thru it and it will spill its banks. Two major routes are 15 heading to Greenville and 16 takes you to Kingsbury and Madison over on 201. 16 is more of a paved two lane road thru industrial forrest mostly owned by Linkletter I believe and there are no utilities on a bunch of it. I drive it often as very few tourists use it.
It has the bakery, a couple of small gift stores, a wood stove shop and a general store. No police department, fire protection is from Monson and or Guilford. I think the kids go to Dover for school but I’m not 100% on that as it could be Guilford.
Food shopping is Greenville but honestly Dover or Guilford are much better options.
No employment that I’m aware of but several options are nearby for factory work. Puritan in Guilford supplied Covid test kits. There’s a textile mill that I can’t remember the name of and Pride Manufacturing makes wooden products like golf tees.
Northern Light Hospital in Dover is a better option than Greenville in my opinion and that’s where we go.
Larger service areas like Newport and exit 157 off 95 are 45 mins away. Bangor is a touch over an hour.

Roadkill Cafe. That was the place he started. The one near the junction had a “fire”. Then he moved it into the East Cove location.

Two or three places had a “fire” that winter, want to say it was ‘99. Remember how hard it was to find a meal downtown for a year or two.

The guy that ran the Roadkill was a fruitloop. He was also the guy that developed the Wolfeboro Inn and Rattlesnake island.

Two fires near back to back. Railroad Cafe in the junction was first. Roadkill was second. Arson couldn’t be proven because the scene was never secured with people walking all over it was how I heard it back then.
The frog sculpture was a survivor thus starting the Black Frog restaurant in the former empty Red’s Lakeside location next to The Indian Store aka Shaw Block.
Frog went to crap and went under. It was torn down and it now Dockside and it’s horrible. 3 visits, 3 total failures so my shadow will not darken their doorway ever again.
There are only 3 sit down options on the southern end now. Kelly’s Landing, Stress Free Moose and the aforementioned. Gone is Flatlanders, Rod & Reel, Auntie M’s and Boom Chain.
