I have a service6 I have only taken to the range a few times and I haven't been thrilled with how and where it shoots. I asked someone else to shoot it so I could tell if it was my poor shooting or something else. I was shooting 130 grain Winchester jacketed round nose. At 10 yards the gun was all over the place, at 25 yards it was on. The gentleman that I asked to shoot the gun said that the load was to light and the bullet wasn't spinning properly at close range. I don't get the whole thing. Anyone have any ideas? What factory loading has worked well in this gun for people?

The bullet/pistol has no idea where you are aiming. It can't decide to group well at 25yds, but not at 10. It may group low/high based on distance, but if the group size shrinks when you get further away, I'd have to say its you.

Definitely try bench resting it, as was suggested. That's how I figured out I was flinching when shooting.

It may be your sight picture is better at a distance.

This was driving me crazy so I went back out with a different load, 158 grain flat nose American Ammunition. I was hitting bullseyes from 5 to 15 yards shooting it both single and double action. I'll mess with more loads, but I won't shoot 130 grain bullets out of it again. Thanks for the input.

I had a long conversation with one of the S&W factory guys and he told me. All S&W 38-357 4 to 6 inch revolvers are designed around the 158 grain bullets at 75ft . That any bullet of a lesser weight won't perform as well as the 158 grain.

Interesting to know... but the Service Six is an old Ruger design. [wink]
