Silouette Targets in MA

i've shot at places where the fudds get their panties in a wad if you shoot man targets. unfortunately it's to be expected as this is MA and they are fudds. never had any actual legal trouble or heard of anyone with any though. YMMV.

Yes, it's still the case, and yes, it's legal for you to shoot at them.

http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/140-131.htm
The colonel of state police may, after an investigation, grant a Class A license to a club or facility with an on-site shooting range or gallery, which club is incorporated under the laws of the commonwealth for the possession, storage and use of large capacity weapons, ammunition therefor and large capacity feeding devices for use with such weapons on the premises of such club; provided, however, that not less than one shareholder of such club shall be qualified and suitable to be issued such license; and provided further, that such large capacity weapons and ammunition feeding devices may be used under such Class A club license only by such members that possess a valid firearm identification card issued under section 129B or a valid Class A or Class B license to carry firearms, or by such other persons that the club permits while under the direct supervision of a certified firearms safety instructor or club member who, in the case of a large capacity firearm, possesses a valid Class A license to carry firearms or, in the case of a large capacity rifle or shotgun, possesses a valid Class A or Class B license to carry firearms. Such club shall not permit shooting at targets that depict human figures, human effigies, human silhouettes or any human images thereof, except by public safety personnel performing in line with their official duties.

Clearly anyone shooting at silhouettes is mentally disturbed and practicing for their inevitable shooting spree. Logic would then clearly dictate that by banning the use of silhouette targets we can avoid violent rampages by firearm enthusiasts.

Actually, it was in response to the use of such targets as a measure of directing disrespect to Representative Hodgkins.

Thanks for the info guys! I was at Manchester yesterday and really dug shooting at silhouettes vs the circle targets!

Found it more interesting to shoot at specific areas of the target such as hands, shoulders, etc.

Just remember that, as Atilla pointed out, some clubs (who are either packed with Fudds on the board or are too stupid to know the law) will ban the use of silhouette targets. This is a club thing and not state law (unless you're shooting at Andover, that is).

I'll have to ask EC about the Shirley club...he's on the board there and thats where I'll probably join.

Thanks for the info

Everywhere I've ever shot we've used silhouettes and never had anyone say anything/a problem. You are permitted to own a firearm for the purpose of self protection from other humans, there should be no issue with properly training in your defense.

I have tried to buy silhouettes online. Every time I get an email canceling the order. They won't ship them to MA. These were the square block type, not even real silhouettes. Who sells them?

The club I used to belong to.....I've literally had other members wringing their hands (after putting down their beer or Jack-and-Coke) telling me that I was going to get arrested for shooting at silhouettes. Talk about incentive to shoot faster and more accurately! F the fudds.

Members of BR&P can buy them from the club's FFL (Joe Norman). I've also bought targets from the man & woman that are almost always at every gun show in MA.
