Just need a place to vent.
I have already sent my SR22 back to Ruger 2 times now. And looks like it's going back a 3rd time. for the same problem!

The first couple of times it was because the Take Down lever drops after firing. (see this video i shot)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QiC6ejAjoE

If you try and fire again it would fling the slide down range (pretty embarrassing to have to call a Cease Fire a couple of times to go pick up your gun parts 20 feet in front of the targets.

So then last night at the range. same problem started happening after about 60 rounds. But this time when i got home I noticed the take down lever will drop if I simply pull the slide back with nothing in the gun..

I guess I am sending it back to Ruger for a 3rd time..
Is it so hard to get a new gun fixed by the manufacturer and not have to worry about it falling into pieces when you pull the trigger??

The only comfort I have is that Ruger has been really good customer service wise. they apologize and get the gun back to me within a week.
But enough is enough. fix the gun please!

thank you. that's all. I am done bitching now.

After 2 failed attempts to repair the gun I would ask for a replacement. Whatever the problem is, it appears they are not able to properly identify and fix it.

This!

I have an SR22 and have never had this problem. See if they'll give you a new pistol.

I thought about that.
But how does it work in Mass with a manufacture replacement. The gun serial number is registered to me.
If they offer a new one.. How do I register the replacement and then get the old one off the books?

It would suck if I have to go through an FFL to do the paperwork and it costs me $20 or something..

+1 mine works flawlessly you got a lemon.

Ruger just replied back to me and said I have to put in writing what I want them to do..
I wrote back that I want the gun replaced with a new one.
Will see what happens.

Yes, it will have to go through an FFL, maybe ask Ruger to cover the cost of the transfer

Our very own ntomsw recently had an issue with his SR1911 (rust) and Ruger replaced it. I believe he did indeed have to cover the transfer fee at the FFL.

I actually like the gun alot. I still recommend it to other people.
The first couple of months that I had it, I didn't have a single problem. Then when I switched from the Federal Bulk box to the the Blazer bulk box.. things went down hill.

Pretty sure it was just coincidence though. I talked to Spears who owns Blazer and they looked at the test sample of that lot and everything was well within the safe range.
But even so, I tried the good stuff last night when things went whacky - CCI mini mags.. same problem.
And then the example video of the Take Down Lever popping when I open the slide by hand proves it has nothing to do with the ammo.

I could have sworn some manufacturers will cover the transfer fee if it's a defect on their end. It's not your fault it's broken. It's worth asking them to cover the transfer fee at your FFL since the original fee was covered during your original purchase. Yeah, it's not a line item in the transfer but it's part of the cost of doing business and thus passed on to the customer. Or if you don't give a shit about the $20, then there's that.

If it's the same FFL where you bought it, maybe they will waive it if you buy some ammo or mags or other high markup items from them. You know, making a customer happy but still getting some money.

no problems like this with mine. I did forget to lock it down after a jam one time, fired and sent the slide down range as described. [banghead] I'd never admit that on a public gun forum though. [slap]

I had a Ruger replaced by them.

They sent it to the same FFL I originally bought it from.

There was no charge maybe just good customer service, I don't know.

But if your FFL gets $20.00 to $25.00 to get you out of a lemon your still a winner.

I originally bought it from Four Seasons.
Will have to see what Ruger decides to do. I sent it back last night. so they should get it today.
Hopefully I will get a replacement..

Anyone know the policy on manufacturer replacements with regards to MA rules on the old gun?

When I get the new gun, my FFL will transfer it to me like normal.. but do I have to do anything about the old gun? It's no longer going to exist. Ruger is going to destroy it. So do I need to fill out some paperwork so that serial number is no longer registered in my name? Wont the state have on file that I still own the old gun..?

Not really sure how that works but I don't think you need to file any paper work.

It's been talked about on here before that even if I were to sell you a gun and we did and eFa10 or even go through an FFL when my name is run (the seller) tit will still show up as in my possession and it will also show up under yours. I do not believe we can get rid of these.

Yup, you'll have a gun on file with the state that no longer exists. Just hang on to the documentation that Ruger provides you that the original gun was destroyed. In the unlikely event that it becomes an issue, you'll have proof that the gun was destroyed.

How does the slide fly down range?

I've borrowed my brothers and cleaned it a bunch.

you have to pull it back up then forwards ?

At first I thought it wasn't that common. But then the company above is selling a whole new Take Down Lever to prevent that exact problem.. so chances are it's not that unusual.

i think it was designed that way as a safety feature. if the take down drops, the back of the slide pops up a hair off the rail. Then the next time you fire, the whole slide slingshots forward over the gun and down range. Probably a lot to do with the recoil spring.
There is no real danger because the barrel is attached to the frame of the gun. so the bullet will still fire and the slide is just no longer attached to anything, so the next bullet wont enter the chamber.

Got the replacement gun. Worked flawlessly.
The take down lever on the new gun is 10x harder to pull down. I am guessing it was a manufacturing change.

There's also an aftermarket takedown lever avail that is better made. Check out the ruger forums. Btw, I just sold my sr22 and was generally very happy with it.

20 bucks! That's like 2.5 mags worth of ammo these days!
Worth asking them to cover it I say.

Glad to hear they helped you resolve the problem, one way or another.
