Ultimate SHTF rifle???

so players should restrict themselves to games and not pretend they are building SHTF things or assume they know how to counteract targets that are not made out of paper and will actually shoot back at them, and possibly from more than one direction, simultaneously.

and then they will discover a magical meaning of the sling, and why you need a free left arm when you crawl out on 3 tentacles from one position to an another, maintaining control of your rifle.

The most elite units in the military use competition to hone their skills and push themselves as shooters. Training in competition that is not exactly the way you’d fight does not lessen your fighting ability.

I thought we got past this kind of thinking (“shooting in matches with game-like rules will get you killed on a two-way range”) mid-way through GWOT. Apparently not.

shooting in matches with game-like rules will get you killed
even if the core rule of the game is not to shoot anything until you put a sufficient amount of sunblock on your mug, as god forbid, the EVIL OZONE HOLE is right up there?

All my AR-15's and AR-9's have a dedicated sling. I did not want or need a sling for that match. I wanted to go fast and not suck...

Weird barricade hold agree, but worked just fine for me that one moment. Some matches you can sling a rifle and not have to bag it between stages. I have done that and it blows to carry it around for hours only to shoot for minuets.

I have also trained with a fully loaded hot and slung rifle many times...

Just cant have a loaded gun in a match between stages.

I don't think I've ever seen a no sling policy at a match

Yup ^

Is this a better grip?? Same stage...

I will gander the sling offers little in improving accuracy in off hand?
Sights, dot, cross hairs on target get the shot off.

A sling can really help improve accuracy in off-hand shooting. But, if you’re only shooting silhouettes at 100 and going in and out of different positions, the accuracy assistance may not be worth the setup/de-set time.

It’s more a thing of habit and muscle memory than of a requirement. While would one want to learn new tricks if old ones work well?

But enough about stupid slings, who cares.

But, the prolonged alcoholism and muscle deprivation makes it really peculiar when you stand up with a 15lbs rifle and try to hit an 8” plate at a 100. And find that it all dances in your hands for no good reason. :)

When I hear SHTF I don't immediately jump to End of World thoughts.
As mentioned earlier the thread ,if that happens I'm settling in with a couple handles, amusing myself with tests of marksmanship and cosplaying the siege of stalingrad.

I'm currently 9 hours from home, spending the week on the coast along 30A in FL.
Returning the day after the election.
Atlanta or Columbia SC plus Charlotte are between here and there.
The rural backdoor route was closed by hurricane helene.
I can think of realistic SHTF scenarios along the way.

There's always a G19 and, if my girl is with me a 365, with spare mags in the console.
For this trip I added an sbr, a few mags of green tips, and a couple G17 mags.

The 15ln A2 I used for nra setvice rifle ( not much mind you ) i just cant see the sling doing much to steady my already wobbly hold.

Now maybe the Hasty sling style might help with a really light hunting rifle

Now at 53 keeping shots in the black of a SR target is goos

💚 Vz58 's. It's that, galil ace or the new century arms/sharps bros collaboration I want if I get a proper ak like 7.62x39

Other than a Valmet, I've owned almost every x39 rifle I would ever want to try. I've owned just about every configuration of AK: pressed, milled, folding, AMD65, Chinese, Arsenal, just about all of them. I've owned two Galils, the .mil configuration one from an IDF kit as well as an ACE Gen II.

My Vz58 beats them all, hands down, and it's not even close.

Do the Swiss still keep a 552 carbine with a sealed tin of ammo in every household for SHTF? A Norinco SKS, bunch o' stripper clips, chest rig and a 680 or 700 round spam can to feed it with opener is a good start.

Lol.... my first stag double fired every round

They honestly are good. But my 1st stag had a slightly out of battery style kaboom after about 2000 rounds. They sent me a new one, which was kinda neat since the original was a discounted blem.

That day, the rifle was misbehaving and never had once had an issue before, not a misfire, jam, or any hiccup, that day had a few, opened it up and couldn't see anything wring. Kept going then sounded like a rush of air through the ears as it blew the bottom off the mag and hopelessly jammed itself up.

I suspect something stupid came apart I didn't notice and a piece of debri got ahead of the bolt just right and lit one off like the firing pin does, before the bolt quite closed.

Damn glad your ok. I liked my stag the diamond rails were sexy

Honestly, I think it's just how this group prefers to RO PCCs
I’m a little slow today. Haven’t had my coffee not sure on the acronym POC anyhow my guess is you guys are moving a lot and they just want slings off rifles for safety you know running around with guns with slings on it must be real dangerous.

Anyhow, my ability to shoot off hand well has long gone. Like I said on a good day and my eyes are working and my fingers working my back doesn’t hurt and everything comes together offhand.

Pistol caliber carbine

But you're in the money. Relatively short range targets, and lots of them, with movement in between.

It can be done safely with a sling, but that's another variable that you just don't need in lower experienced shooters.
PCC - most likely 9mm ar-style or similar carbines, usually with a red dot on them.
Exactly right
