Ultimate SHTF rifle???

Are you really going to swap a firing pin under duress in <60 seconds?

No.

Swap the whole thing.

You know, I’m arguing with people who want to argue… that’s cool.

If it’s a real shtf senario, I’m happy knowing I’m not going to play that game and I’ll just replace it all and return fire.
Did you miss this part below?
You're not hot swapping a bcg while taking incoming fire either.
You hunkering the down or trying to find an escape route

Don't want too, don't need to.
My go to small frame AR 5.56 or my 6.5 Grendel is piston.
Next to no cleaning, heat stays up front and doesn't travel back under prolonged firing.
If I'm lucky enough 1 day to suppress them the gas stay up front too.
Built them as piston setups for that reason.
Not to be a dick. But aren’t you are you new to the forum? 2020 (I’m 2008)? You have a thread about all your guns? Nice collection!

I’ve been shooting since I was 7. I’m way older.

I shoot competitions (100+) idpa, uspsa, 3-gun I’ve done 20-30 training sessions with well known instructors

So sure. You know best.

Show me your shooting resume, I’ll show mine and can back it up.

Smart-assing aside, I get the impression that we have guys who have not spent a lot of time in the field. Assuming that the weather is even warm enough for your fingers to have a chance at functional dexterity, what are the chances that you will be physically and mentally fresh enough to f around with small parts while under duress? Regardless, mess with small parts in the field and you will drop them somewhere you can't find them or at least you won't have time for a thorough search in whatever dirt, rocks, and/or leaves are below you. Will the light be good enough to see what you need to see? Where will you set things down while you work? You'll need to have some sort of improvised drop cloth like a shirt, bandanna, jacket, etc. in order to prevent the introduction of function killing grit into the works and to prevent loss of the bits. How quickly you can change these parts at the house or shop means nothing.

For that matter, I really don't understand the mentality of thinking we will be somewhere out in the wild during SHTF and need to have a kit with spares. I'm not going anywhere. I have a well, a generator, a decent stock of food, and last I checked a couple guns and a box or two of ammo ;) . Low population dead end street with some narrow spots that are easily blocked to keep out unwanted traffic. But yeah- I'm gonna go play commando on Mt. Monadnock or road warrior on the Kanc because that's what I'm supposed to do during SHTF.

Yes, I am.
Cool I started at like 13 in a youth group and then stopped forever.
Never said I was a pro at anything.
Never said I knew best.
I don't have a resume for a hobby. Sorry not sorry.
And as stated before, I was addressing this post.
I have a PWS with their modified piston system. Is it worth grabbing a replacement BCG?
And addressing the vulnerabilities of a piston system for backup parts as requested.
It was that simple.

Does that include removing it from the rifle and grabbing the parts from a zip lock bag or was the bolt on a mat with the parts pre staged?

Not being a dick, but let’s just admit, none of this is under perfect circumstances

I’ll take a spare BCG over a bolt and loose parts 100 out of 100 times

It includes removing the BCG from the gun, but the spare bolt within arms reach. But as I mentioned earlier, I’m not swapping the bolt or BCG during any sort of gunfight.

I just wanted to time myself without practice for fun.

So stop pretending to be a well versed pro gun slinger.

You are new here and not a pro. You even state that.

Stay in your lane.

I genuinely do not want to argue with new gun owners. We’ve done it and it never ends well.

Everyone here is an “expert” prove it I say.

Here is my fat ass rocking it.

You’re carrying a BCG in your combat loadout? May I ask where you’re stashing it? Is there a Molle BCG pouch or are you just walking around with it in your cargos?

Ya no shit. Congrats you can read what I've typed.
Don't tell me to stay in my lane.
And I did by addressing a question that was addressed in a public forum.

No one is an expert in anything.
Everyone is always learning.

Just like when you needed a $30 tool to finish a build a newbie came along and lent it to you. Instead of buying one for yourself.

I’m not. Nor am I carrying parts.

Show me a combat load out, seal, delta, NES that includes a spare bolt/bcg.

But a TQ pouch would hold one well. Maybe some skittles as well.

How’s the support hand karate chop grip working for you when you are rocking it as far away from new gun owners as you possibly can be? I haven’t tried that grip yet. But I did achieve a yellow stripe on my white belt when I was 13. So I also have no time for amateur newbies.

I appreciate that! Absolutely

Thank you! He/you did lend me the reaction rod!

Let’s address the whole bolt vs BCG argument

And let’s agree what is the right way to address the whole point of this thread?

Let’s address training, skills, experience, competitions,

That’s what I’m arguing for.

Everyone is an expert on NES

But when the rubber hits the road, it falls apart.

And @DarkJoker33

There is a two man team two gun shoot coming up next month.

Interested in partnering up?

If yes I’ll send you the details via pm.

ETA: don’t care if we place well. I’m lazy.

I do. I’m keeping it in a suppressor pouch on the war belt, or in my all purpose pouch on my rig when I decide to use that.

This thread has taken tangents that will leave the best pathfinder lost.
I have recently done the first, and major, downsizing on belongings, life and where I am going. It has brought up the SHTF-Bug In rifle considerations.

Damn. You guys are serious. And you like carrying a lot of stuff. I can dig that. But I’m not taking the makers mark nips out of my suppressor pouch to put in something im Less likely to use under fire like a BCG.

It wasn't about the thread it was a specific person with a specific question.
And no sane, strategic or experienced person with any form of training would hot swap parts of a gun outside of a magazine in the heat of a battle.

I wish I could, but I'm strapped for money till next year.
And I probably suck anyways because I've never done any competitions.
It's on my to do list.
But thanks for the offer.

SHTF rifle hmm ,
If I have to grab and run. Its my 16” AR fixed carry handle Irin sights.

Shit I forget what make it is I have had it so long . Its currently treated like shtf rigle Very little care , gets dropped and tossed around and is fed every conceivable 233/556
Even runs well on cast bullets and on good days I can hold the black of a SR1 target

Other than that shtf im more worried about water.

If its a stay home shtf scenario
There will be several types of weapons set up around the castle with appropriate ammo/mags on stand by.

All my shtf planning was for when I was single
Now 53 yrs old , 3 teenage kids and my wife
Well we will most likely just be in the yard
Guns in hand screaming “Warriors”

This thread was destined to take a tangent from the git go. It could have ended at simple, reliable, most common platform, and most readily available ammo and mags. 14" (w/ pinned muzzle device) to 16" barrel, decent quality AR in 5.56 with iron sights. Done.
