Very sad day (Update 3/23)

And everybody needs a copy of the Rainbow Bridge...
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Or The Door Into Summer:

"I hope with all my heart that his gallant little soul may find its Door into Summer, where catnip fields abound and tabbies are complacent, and robot opponents are programmed to fight fiercely - but always lose - and people have friendly laps and legs to strop against, but never a foot that kicks."

Daniel Boone Davis, in Robert A. Heinlein's "Door Into Summer"

This was obviously written about a cat, but I'm sure that there's a Door Into Summer for dogs, too...

Ross your tiger looks like out Tigre, but he is probably bigger. [lol]

Unfortunately, Loki, Bialy & Freya have all found their Doors into Summer, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, shuffled off this mortal coil, rung down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible. :/

(BRW, they were all girls... Shadow is our first male cat)

Tony, I feel your pain. I had to put my four-legged daughter, Molly, down on May 6, 2004. She had cancer. She was 13 1/2, a gorgeous basset hound with the nicest disposition....I came home that afternoon and knew it was time [cry]. You'll know, too. All you can do is love him until it's time. 13 is a good age, though - we both had them a long time; unfortunately they don't last long enough.

My best buddy is running, jumping and playing again.

With only enough strength to make it to the back door, we sat on the floor with his head in my lap, the door open as a gentle breeze blew and watched the sky lighten to begin a new day.

At exactly 6:30 a.m. he raised his head and looked in my eyes and said, "goodbye". I kissed his head and he was gone.

One More Day

Last night I had a crazy dream

A wish was granted just for me

It could be for anything

I didn't ask for money

Or a mansion in Malibu

I simply wished, for one more day with you

One more day

One more time

One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied

But then again

I know what it would do

Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl

Then I'd unplug the telephone

And keep the TV off

I'd hold you every second

Say a million I love you's

That's what I'd do, with one more day with you

Leave me wishing still, for one more day

Leave me wishing still, for one more day

My condolenses Tony.[crying] My first recue cocker Abby was black like yours and I lost her at a young age to cancer. Thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Tony,
My condolences on your loss. I know the pain of losing a furry loved one.
[sad2] As you said, he is running, jumping and playing again, He is with God and he is happy not just to be up there, but cause you gave him the best life possible down here. You are in my prayers.

Tony,

I'm awfully sorry! [sad]

It's very hard to lose a loved one, but know that he's now in a better place and watching down over you.

Tony,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Take comfort in knowing you were by his side, to see your best friend to the next step in his journey.

My prayers are with you!
Adam

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. I truly have lost my best friend, but I am so glad he's free. I know his heart aches for us as much as ours does for him.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Tony. It's always hard to accept, but we sometimes reach a point where trying to hold on for a little longer just isn't worth the pain. Your loss, but his relief.

Ken

Tony,

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Just remember, he's free of his pain and you've got the memories.

My new avatar just displays one of the many reasons he was the "King of Kool".

Thanks again, everyone. It's very difficult. Right now is our 'family hour' which he created. He would be waiting for my wife to get home right now, and make all of us sit on the back porch every night, while he was in the wicker chair with his head on my lap, for one hour. Then, it was chow. God I miss him.

My condolences. My lab is my only child. Almost lost him the day after Christmas from a twisted stomach, it should have been over for him. They are so important to us. Beau is in a good place now.
