Winter Warrior 2021-2022 Postal Match for Iron Sight Military Rifles

Going to try the Carcano tomorrow. Supposed to be 60F here. Hope the club is not swamped, although it was pretty muddy yesterday šŸ°. Crown is good on this 1936 Cavalry.

Maybe it is the crown after all. Just a sliver of life there.
t
Eh not to bad,
Are the action screws snug , that ammo is shit. I sold off all my surplus ammo few years ago except some HXP which I might sell or shoot it up this year.

Great day at the the range 57 and sunny at arrival with lots on ice and snow. This was the first outing with the Cetme L. A plus is it ran great with multiple brands of ammo including wolf as well as standard cetme mags.

Had a better day than me. Carcano cycled, more or less, but no clue how to aim it. Hit the target 4 of 13 times, once on paper, until the bolt failed. Something slipped inside and the cocking piece wonā€™t align with its groove. Have to figure out what went wrong here.

Mine was impacting 28ā€ high from point of aim
Sight picture was front sight as level as possible across top of rear sight. Right or wrong ?
I only got marginal accuracy with factory ppu

This was PPU as well. I fixed the bolt. The cocking piece had moved somehow from its 9:00 slot to 6:00.

Also noticed with the rear sight leaf down, itā€™s 600m. You have to flip it 180 to expose the ā€œbattle sightā€.

I had fixed sight variant.

Third new rifle stinker in a row, but there's hope for the VZ24. Front sight base is canted 10 degrees left and the front sight blade is offset left. The mount moves when you try to adjust the blade, so I'll have to take it to a gunsmith. Was aiming at the left target and was hitting the right one. Beautiful smooth action and perfect bore. New PPU soft point.

Made a trip to the range without my phone. Used my Remington 1903 and a bagful of old (1953+) M2 Ball LC and WCC, WRA. Figured it would shoot high so I aimed at the base of the target backer. First two shots just off at the top edge of the repair center. From then on I tried for a consistent aiming point but all the shots were Kentucky windage at it's worst.
Did manage to put ten hits on the two repair centers using a front rest at 100 yards. Windy but with no aiming point was not a factor at all... Won't say how many rounds it took. [laugh]
Still plenty of snow and ice at the range...and MUD. The pictures tell the story...

If you take out the front sight blade there should be a set screw under it. Tighten it up.

Compromised. Used my Mauser front sight tool to center the blade and tweak the base to what looks like center. You need something to move it; itā€™s beyond finger tight, but still moved. I guess I can move the blade now to get groups.

The bugger marks arenā€™t mine. This example was grooved for a front sight hood. Also the front sight blade is not original....looks like a tall replacement.

You can try taking a torch to the sight base and see if what solder is left will re solder itself?
Or use the pusher to remove the sight blade and see if the screw is there and can be tightened.

I like this style hood/protector might pick one up

Don't have a torch; best I can do is a candle lighter. That's a VZ24 cover as you probably know; I currently have a spare from another rifle. When the Germans modified this rifle, it got cut for a German sight hood. A pain to take off and replace, but I like it batter.

18* this morning. Finally cleaned the cosmo out of my No4 MK2 and figured with current events I would bring out the Wasr. I ran wolf military classic 178 grain in the enfield and various surplus 7.62x39. I wasnā€™t feeling the Wasr today.

I have a stack if targets , guns, ammo been to the range 3 times in less than a week and not a shot fired

I keep finding myself in about the same situation.

I may have to drag something out on Thursday, before the monthly meeting.
I think it's light out a little later, but at my age optimal light makes a difference in scores. Used to have awesome low light vision. Hmm... my vision was perfect before marriage.

Nice!

Depending upon location, we could be running out of winter days very soon.
We got 4-5 inches of snow yesterday [dance]

But, it's true, it's melting quickly. I did another target this week, still haven't posted them! I might consider doing a couple more this weekend if I can find the time and motivation.

Got my 1903-A3 out today. With the new barrel, it appears I need to install a taller front sight as the rear sight won't go any lower, so it's kind of at a 200 yard zero now. As such, targets below were shot "for groups" rather than "for score"; these are unofficial entries. Shot at 100 yards in prone, 125TNT on top of 48.0 IMR 4064.1AC7722A-28CD-4B80-A17C-A09B1A685CF2.jpegCEBBB5FD-B041-4F14-BA40-B7BF540F7AA6.jpeg
