Youtube has begun deleting gun channels

IF the hosting provider that the NRA uses does decide to not renew the contract/agreement, then they could simply bring that inside. I'm sure they already have domain information out there, so it shouldn't take too much work to have the site hosting shift from an external provider to something in a NRA owned facility. Sure, there could be an initial cost to get more servers to do this but then they have more control over said servers. I'm sure there are enough members in the IT field that they could get the talent needed to do this (if they don't already have the people to do it).

IMO, that would be a good move against the anti's... "Oh, you strong-armed our web hosting service to not renew our agreement. Well, we're doing it ourselves now and saving $XXXXXX a year because of that. Thanks!!"

Much like satellite/podcasters did after the FCC was fining broadcasters left and right. Adam Carolla has talked about building his own podcast empire being like a pirate ship:

Wow, I just don't know what to say about all of the attacks on our Constitution. Like guns or not, it's still free speech.

What's so crazy about the current leftist progressive activity in our country is that the media outlets, content hosts, and various other businesses are VOLUNTARILY stepping in line with the leftists. Toss in what has been happening in education for the last 2-3 decades, and the scale of this groupthink is frightening.

Shutting down these channels and removal of related content is the modern day version of this:

For transfer of knowledge, books just don't hold the same place in our society as they once did now that we are fully engaged in the digital age. Digital is convenient, but extremely vulnerable. When the MAC and other channels are 'burned', the leftists can anonymously burn them without flames nor smoke.

Yeah, a private company censoring material is totally the same as the state burning books.

Once they go there, how long until they start offering hosting to [pro-]gun companies as well? Host Full-30, and be done with it.
Soon after I would hope.

Since it seems like their current site is either being overloaded with members joining/renewing, or libtards attacking it, they NEED a better solution anyway. Get some quality load balancers, plus several internet pipes feeding that segment along with a metric shitton of servers/compute resources and make it so that even at the maximum load they've seen to date, the site barely blinks. Then keep adding compute resources every year or two in order to keep ahead of demand. Build up a couple of datacenters/server rooms at the start. Even if you only populate one (or half of one) initially. Have everything in place so that you can easily add resources to the environment. Nothing sucks more than hitting maximum capacity of a server room and actually needing to add more resources (servers, storage, etc.). I know, since that happened at my last job. They moved into the building they're in some years back, and what they were given was reduced at the start. They hit maximum capacity within a couple of years. Then they had to convert closets and storage rooms into server rooms to house more resources.

This just made slashdot:

YouTube's New Moderators Mistakenly Pull Right-Wing Channels (bloomberg.com)
Posted by BeauHD on Thursday March 01, 2018 @01:40AM from the whoopsie-daisy dept.
In December, said it would assign more than 10,000 people to moderate content in an attempt to curb its child exploitation problem. Today, Bloomberg reports that those new moderators mistakenly removed several videos and some channels from right-wing, pro-gun video producers and outlets in the midst of a nationwide debate on gun control. From the report:Some YouTube channels recently complained about their accounts being pulled entirely. On Wednesday, the Outline highlighted accounts, including Titus Frost, that were banned from the video site. Frost tweeted on Wednesday that a survivor of the shooting, David Hogg, is an actor. Jerome Corsi of right-wing conspiracy website Infowars said on Tuesday that YouTube had taken down one of his videos and disabled his live stream. Shutting entire channels would have marked a sweeping policy change for YouTube, which typically only removes channels in extreme circumstances and focuses most disciplinary action on specific videos. But YouTube said some content was taken down by mistake. The site didn't address specific cases and it's unclear if it meant to take action on the accounts of Frost and Corsi."As we work to hire rapidly and ramp up our policy enforcement teams throughout 2018, newer members may misapply some of our policies resulting in mistaken removals," a YouTube spokeswoman wrote in an email. "We're continuing to enforce our existing policies regarding harmful and dangerous content, they have not changed. We'll reinstate any videos that were removed in error."

Realize you went too far? Backtrack and blame the new guys. From the article:

"As we work to hire rapidly and ramp up our policy enforcement teams throughout 2018, newer members may misapply some of our policies resulting in mistaken removals," a YouTube spokeswoman wrote in an email. "We’re continuing to enforce our existing policies regarding harmful and dangerous content, they have not changed. We’ll reinstate any videos that were removed in error."

Youtube's nanny-like policies are the reason places like LiveLeak can even exist. It's basically a channel for everything not allowed on youtube.

Don't forget that YouTube's business model is advertising, so they are hyper-sensitive to public perception. Hence all the posturing and heavy handed moderation.
