A request for @Admin

Fraudulent checks are easy, it's the process and banks that protect the account holder, and the paper trail back to the person cashing it. Yes, this can too be defeated, it just takes more effort, and the account holder is still protected.
Paper check are one of the most secure means of money transfer, FOR THE ACCOUNT HOLDER. Not so much for the bank.
That kind of fraud takes time to recover from.... you don't get your money back instantly... meantime - your mortgage is due and your account is empty...

Just put a twenty dollar bill in a piece of paper and mail it.

Then come back bitch about your time and gas to get to the Post Office. The cost of stamp, blank paper and envelope. Oops almost forgot boycotting the Post Office because you're not allowed to carry there. Use a mailbox by the side of the road.

It's a lot easier than you think.

The suggestion wasn't just as a matter of convenience for me, dude. It's where the 2nd amendment community at large is now. NES, is the outlier here. If you want to attract new members and grow the community, particularly with those in the younger generations, like GenZ, you need to get with the times. If you want to facilitate payment through a processor that doesn't ban firearm related transactions, or hate your 2nd amendment rights, that would necessitate an option beyond PayPal.

It's fine to be set in one's ways... But you're putting an expiration date on your relevancy in doing so. I personally think it helps this place to modernize membership transactions and offer options outside of a company that hates us.

@ThePreBanMan alternative is also just mail money in a piece of paper. If it gets stolen for some reason, you're just out the cash.

Pro tip. You can fit $24 in loose pennies in a flat rate box

Eta. I just read your post above

It has a very low probability of happening to an individual. Nothing in life is guaranteed. You really are sounding paranoid.

Check fraud works for the crook against big companies because it's worth the time and expense to set up the structure to get away with it. Which is difficult because there is always a trail back to the cashing person. Even if they don't catch the crook, the account holder gets his money back. And from the account holder perspective, it really doesn't take that long. You challenge the check, they see it's fake, you get you money back. Ctching the crook may take a lot longer.

BTW at Patreon (and PayPal) there are 100s, maybe 1000s of people with access that could put through a fraudulent charge much easier than cashing a bad check. Security is a thin vail, easily brushed aside.

You've never had it happen to you I take it.... I have....

The Paranoia shown here is unbelievable at times
Checks getting stolen in the mail is actually a thing. I was talking to a neighbor the other day. Earlier this year he had TWO checks stolen in the mail...the checks were "washed", re-written and cashed/deposited for well over $10k! He was able to get the money back but it was a MESS.

Go to the bank, get a prepaid credit card, then use Venmo. Lots of extra work when you could just ask a member that you're friendly with to pay the fee for you and give them cash. I guess you just have no friends here.
Thank you for that post, which contributed nothing to the conversation.

That moves the question away from payment to what does @Admin want the site to be?
I certainly don't speak for him, but I like it being a smaller regional site, plus those with ties back to the area. I don't want it to be become a shit show of members from across the world with no connection back to the area. I wouldn't support excluding them, but no reason to scream "come on in" to every troll in every corner of the world.

My tax guy suggested using a gel pen when writing checks. VERY difficult to wash.

Agree 100%...been using those for years now. I still write and mail some checks, though alot less than I used to...

All I had to do was send him a blank check, and he would wire me millions.... 🤣

But all kidding aside, my identity got stolen because - wait for it - the New Bedford Police Dept gave out all my personal information to the ass clown who stole it. It's a longish story, but yea, in my instance, the police were the ones that facilitated the ID theft.

You would be surprised - how easy it was for him too....

I certainly agree... and can confirm from personal experience... that PayPal is 100% pure leftist anti-2A evil. It still shocks me a little that PayPal remains the preferred way to pay for NES memberships. Borrowing a quote from I'm not sure whom: "We willingly support our enemies and fund our own destruction for the sake of convenience."

That said, I use my local bank's on-line bill payment system. No check writing, no driving to the post office, no postage. [rockon]

What I'm suggesting doesn't change that. All it does is offer a payment option with a company that doesn't hate us.
