Ak47

Don't fool around, go to the Gunbroker or GunsAmerica and pick up a real one. A nice pre-ban PolyTech or a Norinco. They are out there it just takes time.
You will have the best and a collectable firearm.
I still have my Legend since the 90's, never had a misfire, fired nothing but Russian ammo and it still is as dependable as the day I got it ($350 back then).

You can add about $1300 to that price now at an auction.

There are no nice ones. They are all made by drunkards with a hammer and vise. The Soviet faction will appear to dispell the facts shortly.

Not true, anything made by Arsenal Inc is going to be of the highest quality you can buy. You'll pay for what you get, but you'll get what you pay for.

If you ever have a chance to compare a few side by side you'd see the difference.

hey now my bulgarian... er... okay so i was drunk.

but the polish one... uh... drunk, too.

now my 5.45 receiver that i bent i was... druuuuuuunk.

shit. [laugh]

I currently have a problem with Zero Hour Arms. Those "knowledgeable AK47 folk" sold a Bulgarian ak74 parts kit screw built on a shitty TGI AK47 receiver to a unsuspecting customer as a Pre-ban B-West AK74.

I am reasonably satisfied with my Bulgy that I got from there, and reasonably satisfied with the service I got...but...I would not buy anything from there without verifying its compliance with the law personally. They have some tasty stuff in there, but there have been some omissions as far as compliance is concerned.

I'd probably shop there again, but if anyone chooses to do the same...go through your purchase and make sure it is compliant.

That's good advice. Someone there tried to tell me I didn't have to pin a muzzle device on an AR barrel because it was already 20".

I was relatively new to shooting at the time and even I knew that. Not sure how you can run (own?) a gun shop in this state without knowing that.

take everything you hear from gun shops and cops with a grain of salt. %90 of the time (sometimes more) they have no goddam idea what they are talking about. and if someone just walks up to you in a shop and starts telling you well yak yak yak blah blah... get ready to break out your credit card because you'll need to replace your internal bullshit meter as it will burn out on the spot.

Buyer beware. Also, there are some people in MA don't pee their pants about MA law.

www.theakfiles.com is very much like www.ar15.com, except a hell of a lot worse. Bob for Akron Armory runs a lot of shit over there, and basically craps on everyone and anything that is against his best interests. He's a moderator over there, so good luck if you ever butt heads with him. He also shit all over Todd from Ohio Rapid Fire, and still does to this day, even though he passed away last year.

In general: the akfiles can go eat a ****ing dick. There are some good members over there, but theakforum is a hell of a lot better, friendlier, and informative.

the files is good for their marketplace, as some of the members over there don't know anywhere else to sell their shit.

The kiddies on most of those forums are all knuckleheads,AK47.net was the best ak forum site there was but turmoil did that site in more than once.AK file forum was spawned because of member fighting on .net.For one good member there is 30 knuckleheads.I'm only getting back in to the AK scene now after straying off to other avenues firearm wise.

you're absolutely correct on that. The fact that Doug Ford (tantal) spends his free time barfing his immaculate knowledge all over .net keeps my eyes on that forum most of the time. He knows more about the AK47 than Mikhail Kalashnikov does, I would bet.

I also sourced all of my parts for my Type 3 AK47 from .net members, who sold them to me below market value because of what I wanted to do with them. They all had parts that they had no use for, but knew I'd put them into "proper form." And I did to the best of my powers, and they all were pleased with the results. Fair transactions from good hearted people. I've "returned the favors" by selling off some of my excess soviet AK parts that I for the build at low prices.

It beats getting raped by gunbroker / overseas parts thugs

Price of ak 47 is all over the board, either 500 bucks or
2000 bucks...
Big choice to make....

All depends on what you want,Pre-89 is going to cost some coin...next step down is pre 94 but seeing you're in MA where the sunshine law never set,you are left with just plain expensive.

Buy a Saiga and convert it to your 922r compliance or make friends with Boris and Flintoid and see if they can help you build one.

Either way you are looking at 600+

Here is what I did for my first one, bought a Saiga, read the Saiga threads and watched the youtube videos, and did the conversion. By the time I was finished, I knew how it worked and how it went together. It made life a lot easier when I decided to build an actual AK from a Bulgarian parts kit.

This

Ismash Saiga. Makes a 7.62X39 "sporterized" rifle which you convert to a more traditional AK configuration. Yea they make shotguns too.

When you say buy a saiga, I'm confused.
Is this a shotgun??
I need a little slack for this is very new to me
Thanks

You start off with this:

Then read the Saiga threads:

Then you wind up with something like one of these:
