ATF E-Forms Submission wait time

Submitted my first Form 1 today. Email confirmation says "pending research", so I hope I didn't @#$% it up. My buddy sent his yesterday, and his confirmation says Anderson 9mm. I thought with a trust you are the manufacturer, so there wouldn't be a brand name/model #. If I'm wrong, is there a way to amend the Form to include that information?

You are wrong. You cannot amend the form. It will get rejected and start over, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

You are better off doing a whole new form the right way. We can help or point you in the right direction for help.

Crap. Thanks. My lower is from the Matrix group buy, and that manufacturer isn't recognized by the ATF. I have a second one, so I'll start a new form 1 with that serial number, just so I don't lose additional time.

You can write in the mfg & model if you need to. I always give them an explanation of what I'm building in the extra box they give you. "AR15 pattern in 9mm, 8" bbl". Be sure the "name" at the beginning is the trust. The only place your actual name goes is the credit card info at the very end if that's how u pay.

They aren't stupid. In fact, the ATF people I have dealt with in the NFA division have been very helpful.

Jason emailed me this morning to help me fix a couple mistakes I made.

Good to hear that they helped you with your form 1 rather than telling you to scrap it. Like I wrote above, these guys often go out of their way to help when we screw up. The limited contact that I have had has been nothing but positive. I have even had stamps approved on Saturdays.

My stamp was approved on a Saturday. Was surprised by that.

I've had items approved on Saturdays too. I've also had agents be a huge dick, disapprove my application because the template forced 7.62x39 and not simply 7.62. I asked if this simple error (in their system) could be fixed administratively on their end, and I could proceed. Request wad denied, they already disapproved the entire form with no recourse, and said too bad so sad reapply from scratch. Guy was a complete horses ass. One bad experience out of several isn't bad I guess.

Did you email Ted Clutter about the disapproval? He's usually very good about approving resubmissions for "minor" errors such as manufacturer, model or caliber name/type issues within a week. The "major" issues (incorrect applicant name or serial number as examples) tend to require starting from scratch.

So my Form 1 for a Scorpion Evo 3 was both disapproved and approved today. When filing, somehow the model was listed as Scorpion Evo 3 S1 and the form was disapproved because it did not have CZ at the from of it. I emailed the woman, Heather Thompson, who disapproved it and she said she would approve a resubmittal without delay. I resubmitted and paid the $200 (a refund is on its way) and a few minutes later I was approved and had the stamp. I am very impressed with the ATF right now.

Submitted 2/9/16
Approced 6/2/16

Well, nice that they processed the resubmittal... but why would the model have the brand name preprended to it? There's a separate box for that.

The explanation states that the it should have CZ before it "Per the Manufacturer" because it is engraved that way on the firearm.

Ready to join the NFA Club!

Form 1 for SBR and another for SBS E-filed yesterday,

The wait begins.

You may know this already, but for you or anyone else in MA who wants to make a SBS, make sure you only build it from a new, never-built receiver and not an existing shotgun.

From MGL Ch 140 sec 121
''Sawed-off shotgun'', any weapon made from a shotgun, whether by alteration, modification or otherwise, if such weapon as modified has one or more barrels less than 18 inches in length or as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches.

From MGL ch 269 sec 10
...whoever owns, possesses or carries on his person, or carries on his person or under his control in a vehicle, a sawed-off shotgun, as defined in said section one hundred and twenty-one of said chapter one hundred and forty, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for life, or for any term of years provided that any sentence imposed under the provisions of this paragraph shall be subject to the minimum requirements of paragraph (a).
