Bodyguard 2.0

Picked one up today and cycled a bunch of snap caps.

The size if perfect.

If you are coming from a Glock 42 - this S&W feels like junk.
It has sharp edges and does not feel nice to load or pull the trigger.
The machining and perfection of a Glock is nowhere to be found.
Looking at all the parts after a takedown it really has nothing on a Glock.
Compared to any Glock it's trash.

HOWEVER: It is really small and really comfortable to hold. Much smaller than a 42 in 380.
It was only $400 and since it's so small I can see myself always carrying this little gun.

It wont be as easy to use but I'll HAVE IT WITH ME.

A larger Glock can't be carried all the time.

I feel like so far this is a worthwhile and valuable purchase.

It's just that if you are a Glock owner - you'll have to get used to it.

One thing that I DO like VERY much is that the frame is made in Massachusetts and I actually took a tour of S&W 4 times some 15 years ago.

Everything is a trade off.

I will learn to love my new micro gun as I will always have it with me which could be more important than not carrying a better gun.

I've pretty much only shot Glocks and 1911s for the last 20 years until about 5 years ago. That's when I bought a P365. Generally, I'm a Glock bigot, but their products in the Micro 9 and 380 area are inferior to other brands.

I disagree with. your assessment on the quality of the Bodyguard. I'd say it is just as nicely made.
The trigger in particular is better than a Glock 42, unless they have improved it in the last few years. (I sold my 42 about 4 years ago)

One way that it is clearly superior to the 42 is in shootability. Even though it's small.er. Much smaller

IMHO it's because despite being smaller, the Smith has a much longer grip, allowing you to get your whole hand on the gun.
In this pic, with the guns aligned at the top of the front strap, you can see how much longer the front strap is. The length of the front strap is what allows you to control muzzle flip.

The other reason the Smith is so shootable is its lower bore axis. In the following photo the guns are aligned at the center of the bore axis.
Look how much higher a grip the smith allows you to get.

Also, despite being smaller the Bodyguard has a magazine that holds 65% more ammo.

So in the end, you have a carry gun that is smaller, better shooting, and holds more ammunition.

Well, I have not yet fired it so I guess I'll like this gun even more soon enough!!!

I adjusted the sights on my BG 2.0 and tried out the gun at the range today. What a big difference! I was hitting dead center all day long...as long as I used a combat hold/sight picture, which is probably intentional for a little self defense pistol like this. Sure gives me a lot more confidence to carry this thing now.

I’m definitely a Glock bigot and owning 3 different 42s I have tried the new BG and at this point I’m sticking with the 42. It feels like a small full size rather than a pocket gun

Don't you find the BG to be ideal for pocket carry?

The G42 is still not tiny.

I must say that the 42 is wonderful to shoot. Feels like a little pop gun.

Maybe I should compare sizes again.
I have a Diamondback 380 that I carried a lot. It’s the size of a Ruger Lcp. It’s a bit smaller than the Glock 42. But I have found with the right holster I can carry the Glock 42 just as easily. You are right there is a difference. The Glock is much more of a shooter than the pocket 380s IME

Why the .380? Its ballistic performance seems to be all over the place depending on the brand (other calibers are the same way, but there are more options). Small pistols, but with what reliability?

Those tests were done with the Glock 42, not sure how much that would change with the bodyguard 2.0.

A 380 on me all the time is better than a larger caliber I can’t always carry is how I roll

Ok folks...

Big news...

No More BodyGuard 2.0 for me.

I just compared to G42 380.

It's pretty much the same size.

If I had known that I would have never bought a BG 2.0.

I was comparing the BG to the 43X.

43X is bigger.

G42 is pretty much the same.

A Glock is MUCH better than a S&W.

I blame @chris_1001 for my transgression.

Glaston, Please forgive me!!!

If size is your thing and want to go small - just get a G42 380.

I did a side by side comparison - the Glock is SO much nicer!!!

I have a Alabama Holster from my G42 that I dug out and will start using again.

EDIT:

"I did a side by side comparison - the Glock is SO much nicer!!!"

Meaning also reviewing internals... The Glock is much better made and more refined. I just did a detail strip.

The simplicity is gorgeous.

The BG looks like a pile of unrefined metal edges and who knows where those parts are sourced.

Glock at least makes all it's own parts.

I bet half the stuff is a BG is not even made by S&W.

Wow! Other than the barrel length, they are the same size. and the Glock is only 2oz heavier, although it holds less rounds.

You're joking... right?

Have you ever handled the two side by side?
Height is about the only similar dimension and the 42 uses it very inefficiently.
I'd be hard pressed to even call it close.

He’s doing what reptile does.

Yeah, ignoring the length, height (including grip height for fingers), height over bore, width, mag capacity, and weight… they’re totally the same!

G43 is:
- 0.5” longer
- 0.5” LESS vertical room for fingers on grip (and yet still very slightly taller overall)
- 0.06” wider

The G43 is wider… with less cartridges. Amazing.

I like the 10+1 of the BG, thats the big draw for me. And a while back I did have a G42

I also had a G43, which I promptly sold for a P365

More rounds are more better...

I picked one up a while back on a whim. Just got it out a week ago. Brought American Eagle and Fiocchi. I wasn't paying so much attention to the target, but to see how Fiocchi would or wouldn't run. We have a few Ruger Security 380's and Fiocchi doesn't work well in them. I called Fiocchi last fall about it and the gent I spoke to said they bought a Ruger to see what's going on as there were lots of complaints. So, back to BG. I had exactly the same result 2 sessions in one week. This particular Fiocchi ammo is made in Italy and has a scored ring around the case about 2/3 the way UP the casing toward the bullet. Both times, the AE ran NO problems. Both times, the Fiocchi would not even cycle at all. I just emailed Fiocchi today about it. As for the BG, I'm not sure if it's me but I seem to be shooting to the left, although I got a few outer bull ring strikes. But 3 mags worth all went to left. Could be me.

Yes, that long grip that lets you get your whole hand on it, even though the entire gun is shorter than a 42 really sucks.

It absolutely is. It shoots much better than the LCP, LCP Max, Kahr P380, KelTec P3AT, and Seecamp that I've owned.

But compared to the Bodyguard 2.0, it doesn't shoot as well, it is larger, and it holds a lot less ammo.

Again, it comes down to grip length. The Bodyguard is no taller, but has a much longer grip and allows you to get higher on the gun.

If its you, then it's me too.

This gun just likes to shoot to the left for some reason. I've been working with the sights to try and make it centered.
This is with the XS R3D 2.0 Night Sights I have installed and the front and rear sights both adjusted
Guess I need to push them a bit more.
And yes I'm pushing the front sight to the left and the rear sight to the right.
This is about 10-12 yards slow fire.
