I'm in the market for a used BT-99 dedicated trap gun. I'd like a 34" ported with changeable chokes or a 32" non ported that I'd use comp-n-chokes. I'm looking for advice on things to look out for or avoid.

There is nothing in particular to "look out for". Like any other break action shotgun, make sure it locks up tight when closed and that the lever is right of center. Make certain that the chokes are easily removed and not frozen in the barrel. Check the furniture for any splits or other issues. Examine the area of the lugs when it's apart to make sure there is no galling or heavy wear. Check that the barrel is straight and true and that the bore has no rust or pitting. Check the trigger feel, it should be smooth and not gritty. But most importantly ........... SHOOT IT, and make sure you like it!

I've got a ported 34" if you would like to try it.
