Bullet Casting & Coating MegaThread

Dirty copper should go north of $2/lb maybe even $3 if it's not filthy.
Check the spot or call the yard.
My price posted was shortly after the clean out. Im happy they take it . Its pretty nasty from indoor range because of the steel back stop
Out door jacketed bullets are intact and much easier to process and pull out “clean”

I had about 5lbs of pewter that went in with the 1st 2 buckets, about 3lbs in the next 2 buckets and none in the last bucket. Definitely not enough but i couldn't do it all in 1 go and didn't realize how much lead I had. I have a bunch of pewter that I melted into coin size ingots that I can add later to my pots when casting bullets. Not scientific at all.
I found this to be the best way.
I forget the actual numbers but I smelted all my pewter into on large pot and cast aprox 2oz coins
I generally dont do any “alloy” mixes
I run straight wheel weights for rifle and range scrap for pistol

IF im getting poor fill out I will drop in 2 coins per 20lb pot in the lee pot.
Then crank the heat get it as hot as possible. This is close enough to 2% tin for most uses.
Once all heated and mixed I will drop some clean cast in and let it form over the top to stop more Oxidization of the tin.

Tuesday evening. I have about 60 lbs of big ugly to smelt and I think I'll have enough for life.

I was bored over the covid months and did a lead audit. At my current use of cast bullets My supply will out live me, if I double my usage I will run ot of primers before I run out of lead.
Right now I will run out of powder to soon.
No real plans or budget to restock powder…..

Some dumbest decided to get into shot shell reloading so that should whittle it down some.
I bought 4 lbs of Longshot before someone told me it's real loud and they don't like it.
Guess it can be used for 9mm tho.

Holy Moly!
Paper patching!!! I love it. How’s the fit? Slide down with a little resistance.
Pushes in slightly harder than jacketed. From what I see it will engage the rifling better.
Coated in bees wax and paper held up great. I know nothing about muzzleloader. The manual calls for commercially manufactured bullets. Its calls for up to 100gr of Swiss with a 450gr. these cast boolits are 415gr so I will start with 80gr triple7 and work up with chronograph IMG_9168.jpeg

Let me know how they shoot. I’ve always wanted to try PP in a muzzleloader.

@Jay77 is the person who was going to pick it up )i’m pretty sure).
I was planning on snagging and bringing it but unfortunately the stars are not aligning in my favor for attending the 2024 seminar. In addition to grabbing the pot I still have my 6 cavity Lee 9mm mold that @pastera claimed. If by chance any part of my Sunday frees up I’ll try to take a ride down. I was hoping to grab some WW if anyone had some for sale.

You better show up!!

Paper patch was a great success. 80grV of triple7 put the boolit at 1300fps. I aimed above the gong at 150yd for the very first shot and schwacked it!! After that I put target at 50yd and adjusted the site and got in the black then one more click on the site and in the black at 100yd
85gr of triple7 was 1450fps

No problem on the pot.

Awesome!! Did you get confetti when you shot it?

I’m about to cast a bunch of 9 but I built the BF556 bullet feeder. I will use this to feed bullets to the Lee APP to size. It’s now up and running (brass at the moment).

I also primed and flared about 2000 9mm cases to get ready for bullets. These are flared with the NOE expander so I get a great bullet shelf.

How well does that bullet sizing set up work? I use a Lee sizer in an RCBS press for my coated bullets. It would be nice to speed it up. I suppose I could just find out who’s making dies for the star sizer. That helps things out having gravity on my side.

I haven't tried it out yet for sizing :) But that's precisely why I built it. It was about $70 in parts since I went with the proximity sensor.

I was getting tired of placing every bullet in the sizer. But, the Lee APP for brass prep is phenomenal. My arm gets tired from how fast I can go. The bullet sizing should be the same. I put it on a piece of pipe on the side of the bench since I think I will need to lower it. Having that many bullets pushing down on the shuttle might be a problem.

I also almost have the case sorter done so I don't have to physically sort my 9mm anymore. That's been a lot more involved...a ton more electronics. The guy has done a phenomenal job on instructions and support:

I don’t have good service here so I can’t watch that. Is it a machine to sort your brass by headstamp? 😍

I fired up the pot the other day because I’m out of 45’s.
Ooo I’m out of 45s too. I want to switch to MP452-374 mould though.

Couldnt wast a nice day Cleaned up couple hundred pounds of pure and about 50 of wheel weights. think some zinc might have slipped in. Some one gave me a bin being a hoarder couldn't resist. shit must of been out side for years covered in funk. But still have over a ton of pure to clean.
