Even the most biased surveys find near parity between shootings (legal and non-lethal) and DGUs (some of which are, of course, shootings too). Hemenway and coauthor s routinely publish egregiously flawed research that editors and reviewers just let slide by. These papers are singled out and quoted by gun control advocates as finding the fewest DGUs and the greatest chance of injury by an effort towards self-protection.

If defensive gun uses were outnumbered 10-to-1 by criminal gun uses and resulting in injury to the defender more than half the time, how would the math favor more gun control? Only by considering aggregate socials cost/benefit ratios and not individual rights. We don’t use such math and neither to the progressives/liberals. Try saying that racial equity is a collective right but not an individual right. They would go crazy…
