S&B should do just fine in a A3
80+ year old rifles unless tined well in great shape still are not “match guns”
Get to reloading: everyone had their own little pet load. I usually shoot cast from my A3
Getting a solid foundation, Natural Point of Aim, consistent sight picture and solid off hand scores will take your scores up faster than “match ammo”
For cmp games 3 moa will clean targets if you can hold it.
Your off to a great start.
Your average shot was 8.6

Learning to call your shots will help also.

I was just adding to the list of things available so yes rifles. We have jackets Mats gloves. And yes, you pay for the ammo
Scope, I mean, spotting scope if I’m not using my scope I will let people use it

That is some solid advice and good points. I am probably going to get into reloading, but probably not until next yr. I'm just to busy to take on another aspect.
This is the bulk of any practice I do.
An old 853 10m target rifle , I think cmp still has some referbs for $125 shipped.
Target is a 25ft air rilfe target and does a good enough job.
Sometimes I will shoot at the 2” spinners at 25 yards. Only thing keeping me from rusting up

Primer—- in known LR forget what was in the tube?
Powder 8208
Velocity aprox 2600 fps- no testing just trying to use up some powders I dont have a lot left of

You know I don’t even remember what year it is. I want to say the barrel says 46.
I bought the rifle from a guy that used it back in the 50s and 60s for Match shooting. It’s drilled and tapped for match sights When he retired it from Match shooting, he had it blued. and turned it into a deer rifle. He kept everything to return it back to original. Except for the bluing of course. I didn’t get the match sight He thinks he let that go with another Rifle. But he did come up with the front sight base so you could put the front globe on and came up with the front globe for me . One of these days I’m gonna show up with the Redfield sites on it just to give Franco a little something to piss and moan about it.

So I was foraging through the thinning supply bunker and came across some Shooters World Match Rifle, man I wish I stocked up on this powder pre covid

Target orientation is fubar in picture.
The Match Rifle in 308 did ok. Felt a bit snappy. vs the Creedmore Match and my Varget loads
308 - Match Rifle powder. Theres 8 other rounds from my friend on this target. Basically clustered left 9 ring , meh.
Then the M1 the upper 10 shots where Match Rifle Powder, Had 2 short cycle , 2 clicks down and shot 8 rounds of HXP 72 .
I will probably just run some HXP 72 in the Garand Match
Im out of creedmore Match Ammo do looks like Im going to run the Generic Varget Load for M1a Maybe I will load up some 223 with match rifle and give that a run at the match

Now I have been tossing around ideas for some custom engraving on the barrel shank but I might just go with a simple Caliber designation. I robbed this photo from the internet. Im not sure If I want to go 7.62 or 308 similar to this but on the barrel shank.

I will not be bringing the 98K to the vintage match coming up. I officially cannot see the rear notch or the front site.
Which worries me because the 31 is not much better of a site set up. Although I did install wider front sites on the 31.
So that leaves me with the two vintage rifles I have with app style sites. The Enfield and the T 99.
