CMP 2024 Old Colony sportsmen club Pembroke MA

Straying off topic a bit but I'm considering a hold open on last round conversion for the 1022. Going to see if I can hold the black shooting offhand with a model 52 w/ a 10X Unertl. That's a lot of scope to hold offhand but we'll see. I plan on shooting the Leominster winter offhand series again this winter and want to skinflint and do it with 22LR. The 1022 has an Athlon Midas Tac 6-25 but it's on a rail and would be easy to swap to a lower power scope. The 52, not so much. Maybe I could find a set of irons for the 52- it has the blocks for it, but I prefer to leave it as is with the Unertl 10X.

The goal is to up my game in offhand and possibly go to Camp Perry Nationals again next summer.
Theres a handfull of guys at pembroke doing the winter and summer 200 yard off hand league.

I would much prefer a 200 yard distance, but Leominster is only 25 minutes away at most. Also when trudging through snow, 100 yards is better than 200 yards. [laugh]

Kinda figured the 52 and 10X Unertl would suck for offhand and it did. It's a shame as from the bench I was shooting groups under 1" with Eley Edge ammo. The 513T (finally sold it) didn't like Edge but the 52 does. I should have a low power scope somewhere and can use that for the 1022. I'll either have to fumble w/ locking the bolt open or get one of those conversions as the rules require single loading.

Thats why the rich kids went out to eley testing and found what there anchutz liked and bought 50-100k rounds, lol

If I had piss away money just for fuks sake I would send my glen field 25 to eley and get a case or 2 of what ever does best in that.
It does well with shorts but noticed a “ring” on the barrel some years back and I think it ruined any real potential in that rifle. I dont recall any episodes but I have read it does not take much to ring a pencil 22lr barrel.
I have been tempted to by a match barrel blank and replace it for hahas , but I cant justify the waste of funds.

I call BS on the “lifting “ of the round.
If you buy a tin of clipped ammo they are not staggered.
The clips need to fit the guide with zero effort , lots of the new production clips are to thick and many are twisted

The mosin is no mauser thats for sure

Detail strip your action get all the crud out from under the interrupter , If possible replace it

The interruptor and its slot are the first things I inspect/clean on a Mosin. I make it moves freely and has no binding. I also make sure it's lubed well before setting the action back in the stock.

FWIW, here's how I load my Mosin stripper clips:

A picture of the rims and how they're sitting (as best as I could get)

We do what we have to do to get them to run.

Kinda glad I brought the K31 today because my M1 match was a total goat screw. No huge mistakes but I was all over the target in slow and rapid. A shame because my offhand was decent and oddly brought my score back up a bit vs. usually dropping my average score. IIRC 253 and 2X? Might have been 0X.

267 4X with the K31 was enough to get silver in vintage. 1st in Vintage was a 283 (6X?) with an Italian Stallion prepped 1917. Very good shooting get that 283. IIRC one of our guys took the overall win at Vermont with a 282 in Vintage? Something like that.

Silver lining to the badly machined Minelli 1917 stock is that Spaghetti King is in the process of restoring my original stock. He says it's in good shape for accuracy and might turn out halfway decent for cosmetics by the time he's done. Will take longer for me to get it but totally worth it.

Absolutely beautiful day and great to see everyone. Everyone had fun with the usual ball busting and banter. One more match, @mac1911. You know where you are and what time of year it is when you see cranberry bogs at harvest time. Part of my commute to OCSA-

IDK why but I thought the match was next week? Anyway mattered not Dad Taxi day
All over the place, great day and plenty of bog scenes around here.
Seen them flooding some and dry picking orhers.
Theres a few “organic “ bogs near me and they are full of weeds and small trees .
They usually dry pick those also. Looks like a snow blower they walk across the bogs and it dumps the berries in a bag

Just past the big bogs there are a few of those 'organic' bogs. You'd think they could be just as organic with fewer weeds and trees.

Nice shooting , nice legit gold score for vintage also .

I forget the score and it was decent, but I think it might be a first time for the M1 Garand winner to win the match. Maybe I've missed his wins in the past, but a solid score regardless. Worth mentioning that both match winners were the young guys, not the old guys. :)
