CMP 2024 Old Colony sportsmen club Pembroke MA

Bump- I'll be there this Sunday. Bringing the Italian Stallion Special M1 and an 03A3 I match conditioned myself.

A la mac1911, I'm practicing with a pellet rifle. I have the 9 lb Springfield M1A underlever.

I have not been practicing , did not realize its springfield match. Im torn do I run cast or HXP , not wasting good ammo on rusty booga hook

Im running 1972 HXP tomorrow
Both Springfield and M1
Im not anticipating a good shooting day for me.
Oh yeah, not falling for that one again. [rofl]

Mac1911: "I'm shooting some corroded stuff I found in a puddle in a forgotten corner of Grandpa's leaky cellar." Then proceeds to get highest score by 10-12 points.

Come on , in reality there often not legit medal scores…..
Not like im shooting 279+ for gold in M1
Heck im doing well to shoot into 360s fir bronze !

My goal is always to tey and keep them in the black , which is 270 min

See just squeaked into legit Bronze scores
263 and 264
I think 265 took bronze in both matches

I was OK with the 259 and 260 considering the lack of competing this year and damn near buying the farm a few weeks ago. Pretty happy with no hits outside the 7 for Springfield offhand. Need to get my sh!t together for rapid.

Bump. I'm planning on being there next Sunday. Might shoot a recently obtained IHC or will bring the Spaghetti King Special M1. For vintage it will be the K31 as I wouldn't expect the M1917 to be ready quite yet.

I’m planning on going. Just shooting Garand, but I’m bringing a poosey gun just for Franco.

If I could figure out how the hell to load during rapids I'd shoot the Finn Mosin. Haven't shot the K31 in a long time plus I have a nice stockpile of GP11, so that's what I'll do.

On top of that, the Italian Stallion will have my 1917 ready. Maybe I'll shoot it- gotta load more .30-06.

Why so hard to load mosin

Stripper clips suck
Is it the clips or the interrupter?
I might have a few Hungarian clips somewhere ? I might even have a interrupter kicking around.
I will try to round up what I have incase I get over there. Softball is in full swing so I might not make it

Watching a video it might be the operator (me) who sucks.

I'll try to load per his method. Props to the IntoWeapons channel for a concise video.

The Mosin loads reasonably well with decent stripper clips. The ones I use regularly haven't given me much trouble at all. Using the clips well takes some practice, more so than Mauser clips I've found.

Some things I've figured out with my Mosins:

1. I load my clips in a 'mountain' shape where the middle round (#3) is sitting highest, the adjacent rounds (#2 and 4) are lower (rims below the middle round), and the rounds at the ends of the clip (#1 and 5) are lowest (rims below #2 and 4). It's hard to describe...I'll take a picture tomorrow of what I mean because I don't feel like digging everything out now.

I don't use the 'staggered' method like everyone says to do....it's a pain in the ass to handle (bottom round can flop around), and the clip can only go into the rifle one way, unlike how I set my clips up which can be inserted either way.

2. Lifting up the first round (like in the video above) helps get downward pressure on the rounds, specifically the rims

3. You need to get the rounds down in one motion...if you stop part way through you'll have issues and they'll just bind up, or the clip will start popping up out of the rifle

Thanks- I didn't stagger nor did I lift up on the uppermost round while pressing down. I do have a lot of practice saying the clips suck. [rofl]

I call BS on the “lifting “ of the round.
If you buy a tin of clipped ammo they are not staggered.
The clips need to fit the guide with zero effort , lots of the new production clips are to thick and many are twisted

The mosin is no mauser thats for sure

Detail strip your action get all the crud out from under the interrupter , If possible replace it

Im all for making shit work , but by design all this is not needed.
The one thing I highly agree on
Dont pussy foot the delivery of the clip into the magazine , get it in the guide and send it.

I'll take a look, but I think everything is clean under the hood. The Finn is still in its WW2 stock, so it probably has the same interrupter that they put in there to go out and kill Russians. Anyway, last time I tried to shoot it in the OCSA match my rapids reload was a shitshow.

Need to check my ammo inventory. If I don't have any decent non-corrosive 54R I'll just shoot the K31. I'll load some more this winter.

Some where I know someone posted the mosin manual on this topic IIRC it was a Hungarian manual ?
Anyway reminds me of a old Russian guy from another club. I belong to he showed us pictures of when he was in what he would call the national God in Russia with his. Rifle. he had the typical deep Russian accent. And often would say stuff in Russian before saying it in English.
Generally, if he was around and someone was struggling with the Moz, he would tell us you need to treat that thing like a babushka beating her grandkids. Swift firm and without hesitation.

I will say the years that I owned my rifles, finding clips that even remotely fit, the clip of guide was a bit of a challenge. The challenge diminished once I started picking up much older surplus clips.

And he would always remind people that your interrupter and your magazine spring need to be inspect or they won’t do its job.

I’ve sold all my moins except for one that I picked up in a small estate sale, but is a sewer pipe bubba’up’d POS

If I can scrounge up five rounds and what I think I have left for the surplus clips and maybe even the spare interrupters, I have somewhere I will try to make a video with a bad interrupter and a good interrupter.

The Mocine clips remind me of the German made M1 Garand clips by member correctly mostly 1972 HP just sucked. They sucked even more if you tried loading them with Brass or 308 NATO when they changed the extractor groove.

Funny reminds me of when I was a kid and I was having problems with the 1022. my dad asked me if I cleaned it and I would say yes he would say something like
Go get that cleaned Rifle and then proceeded to show me just not clean it was

I also learned from my father that especially 22 rifle don’t over lube it. Just. enough to protect it from rust. That’s how we could go all summer shooting multiple thousands of rounds of some of the cheapest 22 long rifle out of our 1022s without jamming
Lol

Straying off topic a bit but I'm considering a hold open on last round conversion for the 1022. Going to see if I can hold the black shooting offhand with a model 52 w/ a 10X Unertl. That's a lot of scope to hold offhand but we'll see. I plan on shooting the Leominster winter offhand series again this winter and want to skinflint and do it with 22LR. The 1022 has an Athlon Midas Tac 6-25 but it's on a rail and would be easy to swap to a lower power scope. The 52, not so much. Maybe I could find a set of irons for the 52- it has the blocks for it, but I prefer to leave it as is with the Unertl 10X.

The goal is to up my game in offhand and possibly go to Camp Perry Nationals again next summer.
