It's starting to sound like it....
No. It is for Curios and Relics only. Only C&R eligible guns.As a collector's FFL could I buy a modern handgun for personal use online and have it shipped to me?
No. You can't.What if I wanted to buy a modern gun for personal use? I have no interest in becoming a dealer, but it would be nice not to pay FFL's fees when shipping a gun.
I need to get mine. I postponed it (stupidly) because we were moving. Now, years later, I think I need to rent @EddieCoyle's C&R license course video just to make sure I get the damn paperwork right.Every gun owner should have one. It's cheap and easy to get.
The paperwork isn't hard, just logging each acquisition in a bound book. You can buy a preprinted commercial bound book (Amazon, Brownells, etc. have them), or create your own.I need to get mine. Thank you. The application seems a little clearer than I remember it, perhaps because I am reading it on my computer instead of a paper copy. Unfortunately, it is still a multi-use application and that's where a lot of things screw me up. I'll give it a shot and see how many questions I have that I can eliminate on my own.The paperwork isn't hard, just logging each acquisition in a bound book. Don't sign the C&R you get from the AFT. You're going to sign each copy that you send out individually.
Fill out the application form, mail one part to the AFT with your check or c/c information; and the Chief LEO part of the form to your PD. Note that the CLEO is not approving this application, it's just a notification. Also, the regs are slightly different for C&R 03 FFLs and 01/07s.
Message me if you have any questions....
Would you consider putting your questiohs here on NES? I suspect a lot of folks will have similar questions.Thank you. Well, we can start with the whole "responsible person" thing. Do I fill that out for myself for an 03 license? Can I make my fully-licensed good wife a responsible person on my 03 license?Would you consider putting your questiohs here on NES? I suspect a lot of folks will have similar questions.
From the Definition section of the application:Well, we can start with the whole "responsible person" thing. Do I fill that out for myself for an 03 license? Can I make my fully-licensed good wife a responsible person on my 03 license?
So unless your wife and you are in whatever the AFT considers a "Corporation, Partnership, or Association", I'd say no, just yourself. I'm not sure of the ins and outs of how a trust would play here, not sure if the AFT will approve a trust with a responsible person.Responsible Person - In addition to a Sole Proprietor, a Responsible Person is, in the case of a Corporation, Partnership, or Association, any individual possessing, directly or indirectly, the power to direct or cause the direction of the management, policies, and practices of the Corporation, Partnership, or Association, insofar as they pertain to firearms.
I wouldn't say everyone. I cant recall a single time i wanted a gun that required an 03.Every gun owner should have one. It's cheap and easy to get.
Okay, so just myself as "Responsible Person." If the good wife wants to buy C&R guns via a C&R license, she will have to get a separate license for herself. From the Definition section of the application:

I almost forgot, AFT is going to need a copy of your LTC as well.

Most people put 1 hour during the week. I put Friday afternoon 1-2 pm. If the ATF needs to talk to you about your C&R they’ll call you anyway.Okay, so just myself as "Responsible Person." If the good wife wants to buy C&R guns via a C&R license, she will have to get a separate license for herself.
Another question: I see that business hours are required even for an 03 license. What have folks been putting down?
Technically, you are an FFL. A 03FFL.Doesn't apply. You are not a FFL, you are a C&R FFL.
I wouldn't say everyone. I cant recall a single time i wanted a gun that required an 03.
LOL!!! Okay, choose something short & sweet during reasonable business hours and don't get cute about it. Got it.Most people put 1 hour during the week. I put Friday afternoon 1-2 pm. If the ATF needs to talk to you about your C&R they’ll call you anyway.
Just don’t put something like 1-2 am on Tuesday.
Well, I, too, have gotten through 50 years ofI wouldn't say everyone. I cant recall a single time i wanted a gun that required an 03.

I unfortunately mostly missed that.Unfortunately the golden age of C&R purchasing is long over. 15 years ago or so was the sweet spot
This.........if you want just a few old guns when you run across them...just buy them like normal. You don't have to deal with bound book shit, licenses, etc.....I wouldn't say everyone. I cant recall a single time i wanted a gun that required an 03.
Had I known the price they get for old junky milsurps nowadays. I might have dumped some money into it. Those were the days when a crate of 10 mosins were like 800 bucks or something with the crate.I unfortunately mostly missed that.
The older the better off you were.....my dad tells me of times before i was born.....Unfortunately the golden age of C&R purchasing is long over. 15 years ago or so was the sweet spot

Walking into a shop with a barrel full of M1 Garands with matching numbers for 100 bucks each and no one wanted them. Next to it was a barrel full of German K98 Mausers for 50 bucks and no one wanted them. Mosins.....probably got 10 bucks for those things.
I've never received a call besides the robocalls that go to all ATF's when the fax machine goes down. You guys with C&R's, you still get the occasional call from the ATF for a "visit"? I know I did when I had mine.
Neither was I but I guess when they have been slacking on their inspections they'll do a bunch all at once then you never see them again. Thats how it was when I got audited, a bunch of other NES'r got calls around the same time for visits.I've never received a call besides the robocalls that go to all ATF's when the fax machine goes down.
I'm also not buying/selling a great amount.
You can still find some interesting items now and then but will have to shell out more $$Unfortunately the golden age of C&R purchasing is long over. 15 years ago or so was the sweet spot
