My brother got one with his 22 rifle in his yard. It was about 60 pounds. What suprised me was the size of his teeth and jaws when seen up close. This is a powerful animal with the right tools to do some serious damage.
I've found with their winter coats, they often look A LOT bigger than they really are. I shot one a few weeks ago and it looked pretty big at first, but this coyote was no more than 50 pounds. They are usually pretty athletic and trim under all that fur. They do have some big chompers though...
ps, a pack of coyotes killed a full grown milk cow here in eastern mass during last wweeks storm, they got her down in the deep snow and somehow killed it. The farmer says they ate quite a bit of it too. That farmer is obviously wanting to send the yote's a little message now...
