Desert Eagle Megathread…

Figured I'd post in this thread rather than in the 50AE DE thread....

Got another phone call from Fords today. They told me the 10 inch barrel has a couple small pieces of metal missing from the muzzle end. I'm like wtf?! So she texts me photos and says they can round/blend it in for $40 or weld it and then blend it down for $70.

I literally have no recollection of this damage but then again I only shot the 10 inch barrel once and had it stored away the whole time I’ve had the gun. Hmmm. I don’t have any before photos but I think they damaged it as it’s quite obvious and I feel like I would have noticed it.
Whatever, $70 to strip off the HC, weld and blend isn’t a tough pill to swallow. Still annoying.

Anyway, good news is that it will be shipping in the next week or 2.
I am a little more concerned with what looks like a lack of rifling and a crown. That literally looks like a cut versus a ding from dropping it. I can see for sure dings scratches chunks. I’ll show up much worse after your strip blowing off them. Heck it looks as if that ding was there when they were done making it as someone didn’t judge well enough if it would machine out anyhow is what it is I guess.

Desert eagles have polygonal rifling for what it’s worth. Yeah there’s no crown but then again we’re talking about pistol barrels not rifle barrels. Plenty accurate out to 120 yards which is the furthest I’ve shot it.

I just feel like I would’ve noticed that before hand but unfortunately I don’t have any before photos of the muzzle so it’s my word against theirs

No. It's their word against their own.

To get here they did some version of the following:
  1. receive your (insured?) package
  2. remove the parts from said packaging
  3. disassemble sights, etc.
  4. use some combination of chemical and mechanical stripping processes to remove the bluing
  5. clean the parts
  6. polish the parts
  7. clean the parts again
  8. chrome plate the parts
After ALL these steps, they did a final inspection and noticed this "pre-existing" damage and brought it to your attention. So not once - neither during nor between any of these stages - did they inspect your parts for damage?

True. I’ll call them tomorrow. I already agreed to the $70 “repair” but still worth a call

Judge: what sort of evidence do you have to prove that this damage was caused by the owner of the firearm?

Lawyer: provides 200 pages of screen shots from NES showing all the previous damaged guns at the hand of (screen name) DW357, the plaintiff

Judge : Case Dismissed!

Those parts look pretty low polished to me. It's possible they are still only around step 4 or 5. But even then - either nobody noticed when they were doing disassembly, or nobody spoke up. Either is kind of damning here.

The gun and barrels are being brushed hard chromed not polished. I didn’t want the mirror polished finish. Fingerprints would drive me nuts 😂

I can't stand fingerprints either but I have to say if I had a DE I'd want it to be a completely over the top cartel boss gold model shining like it was polished by a young Tommy DeVito

I went to the website to check pricing and saw this
Ford's is currently NOT accepting Titanium Gold AK projects.
Disturbing and possibly anti American policy 🤣

Not polished? ... DUDE!

How are you going to operate if you can't admire your reflection while operating?
Now he has to carry a separate hand mirror to look around corners and inspect for threats. Real operators don't own unitaskers.

I already have a brushed chrome DW 1911 and CZ SP-01 shadow so I had to keep it consistent 😂

If you mirror polish all 3 and place them next to each other, you create an infinity mirror effect of guns.
It has been scientifically proven to be more effective than viagra.

I had a DE 44 years ago. You'll enjoy a Smith 29 or 629 a lot more I believe and less money too. There's a 8" Smith 44 for sale in the NES classifides now.
You are comparing a semi auto to a revolver? #NESstrong

If going 44mag, there are better revolvers than a S&W. I am pretty sure the OP already has a few DW he probably enjoys more than a poorly built SW.

I bought mine in 1990 and its still going strong so not sure why you say poorly built.

So, you're to believe they found that damage after they stripped the bluing, but before they applied the HC, but that it must have been there when they received it? Does their process not include a receiving inspection step?
Messaged them again for an update. I told them the silence had me concerned after they said the barrel was damaged and then I didn’t hear back.

This was their response:
Yep, everything is going great and according to schedule. It is normal to miss things sometimes when the finish hasn't been removed yet. These larger barrels are heavy and it's common for them to get dinged around during use.

I just responded saying that I’m confident the barrel wasn’t damaged prior to shipping but I have no photos to prove it. And that I won’t make a big stink about it if it’s easily repaired
But the bolded part is a little ridiculous. She seems really nonchalant about this

I'm on my second one, the first had 44 mag, 50AE, and 440 Corbon barrels, but
I ran into financial problems, and had to sell it! I got one at a local rifle range, that
they had as a rental, and I bought it for 800 dollars! Only thing I've had to replace so
far, is the so-call extractor spring! I will never sell this one!
