Just caught up with this thread; interesting list. But where is Waltham on the list (or am I going blind)? My buddy lives there and is thinking of applying for his A/ALP.

yeah a friend of mine is wondering too since he also lives there. The way I see it is, since there is little information, is as the following:

will he *not* apply for Class A ALP if Waltham doesnt give them out? WOuldnt make sense to do t hat. He should apply either way and see what happens (unless hee can easily move to a friendlier town)

solely IMHO of course.

I'll have some info on Methuen hopefully by tomorrow...Turns out that a friend of mine's father is the Chief of Police in Methuen, so I should hopefully get a direct answer.

Good advice. Thanks for it. We never realy know until we try.

My kids applied for FID cards for chemical spray in the town of Bedford almost two months ago. Two weeks ago, they were finally called in to have their fingerprints taken. Then they were told that it would be another month before their FID cards came in. For chemical spray? WTF!!!!

Guide to gun rights

Lawrence green????? My daughter's boyfriend who had an FID applied and had no BOP or violations and had the safety course and knew the licensing authority. He not only had to get a letter from a physician stating he was mentally and physically able to carry and shoot a firearm but was given a restricted LTC A. Lawrence green.....I don't think so.

daughter's boyfriend
Possible age discrimination? Some realtive young person in their 20's is going to be viewed quite a bit differently from the slightly overweight hypertensive balding middle age homeowner/boring but upstanding citizen.

Haven't applied yet (waiting on my safety course certificate to come in the mail), but had a pleasant experience at the Westford PD this evening. Stopped in and asked the dispatcher for the forms I need to apply for an LTC. He grabbed a form off a pile right next to his window and handed it to me with a smile. He helpfully pointed out when the records window is open so I can submit it.

The one thing I forgot to ask is if they take pictures or I have to supply them and it what format. I'll have to call and ask tomorrow.

Just out of curiousity.

If I travel about with large amounts of money, jewelry, or other valuable equipment I could qualify for an LTC-ALP. However, with a restricted license, if I travel to the range, training sessions, and hunting grounds with Handguns and Rifles locked in my trunk, I can't CCW while driving in order to protect myself during a theft.

Has anybody posed that question to an anti-chief and got a logical response?

When I was at the gun shop I did see a couple ALP's from Plainville. If you can't get anywhere with the chief, I would suggest contacting a local gun attorney. Or better yet before you try talking to the chief, maybe talk to the attorney first.

They should be taking your picture with the computer and have it digitally put on your license. That is the new system. Lousy picture quality but easier to do.

Heard from an attorney that Franklin is issuing restricted for first time LTC applicants and Plainville is actually downgrading ALP to restricted on renewals.

Did some additional research on restrictions. Apparently, if you have a sporting restriction, some jurisdictions interpret it as "target and hunting" and others include camping, hiking, and protection from rabid animals. Bottom line is it is not defined by law. Additionally, some jurisdictions will let you protect yourself in your home, while others will not.

I guess in my case I would contact the chief of the community I was visiting before engaging in any activities that did not involve an established range.

Let remember here that if you have ANY restrictions on you permit you can NOT CCW in public at all. This includes hunting, hiking, camping or anything else. As far as private property like your home or a private gun range this does not apply. No matter what the restriction is, it means no CCW in public.

Yep. It also means even if you have it locked up in your trunk, you need to be going to or coming from the approved activity. So you can't even transport it to show your Uncle Fred, and probably can't even transport it in the morning for a trip to the range after work.

But again, as I think LenS once pointed out, a restriction is anything the local chief wants it to be. So if you have a specific question or particular need, check with your issuing chief and/or the chief of the jurisdiction you are visiting.

A nation of kings instead of laws. What's wrong with this picture?

yea they use a webcam. the area on the id is big enough for a passport or drivers license picture..... but yea they do it

they showed me the pic they took for my ID, and I laughed my ass off! It looked like a mugshot which Im SURE the Licensing Officer woudl love to see along with the "Class A High Capacity" box checked off next to it, lol. They took it a second time, but it didnt help. The sargeant nicely told me that the picture doesnt matter in the process and i wont be judged on it. If this weren't MA, I wouldnt have worried, but with this place you never know. They seemed cool enough so maybe he was right.

3 to 5 more weeks!

IMHO, its one thing to issue restricted the first time if you are guaranteed unrestricted upon renewal, but DOWNGRADING a license? that is plain whacked IMHO. I always pictured Plainville to be more gun friendly!

It used to be friendly under Chief Sandland and the late Sgt. Peavey. The new chief came from Brookline. Plainville is nothing like Brookline and I know because I frequently work EMS in Brookline.

BTW, a Brookline patrolman told me that the current chief won't even give a Brookline officer a LTC until he's been on the force for 1 year.

that sucks man! Move to North Attleboro or Attleboro!

Ok, I couldn't speak to him myself, but my friend did ask for me...

For Methuen, he restricts the first one...Assuming all is kosher come renewal, you will receive an unrestricted LTC.
