I will never advocate violence against the government, whether it be local, state, or federal, unless their behavior becomes so authoritarian that our liberty and free will is significantly compromised. Significantly, of course, is the operative concept, and everyone has a different line. The government, again local, state, and federal, has increasingly encroached upon our freedom, in the form of control, regulations, onerous licensing schemes, and bans. We all know the myriad examples involving us law abiding citizens and our guns. Gun owners are pilloried and victimized by many corrupt government entities and the sleazy mainstream media at every turn.

Another example is smoking, and Concord, MA is apparently considering a ban on selling cigarettes in town. But for an occasional cigar (~6/year), I am not a smoker. I don't like cigarettes one bit, but I could never conceive of banning them. It is not my place to deny someone their free will if it doesn't affect me. Smoking isn't allowed in public buildings and restaurants. Fine, I agree with that. Many smokers are likely to incur more health costs over their lifetimes than non-smokers. But smokers pay a ton of taxes with every purchase they make. Although I'm generally against bans of any sort, I am okay with adding user fees (tax light).

And let's not forget about other "risky" behaviors, such as drinking, obesity, driving fast, living in the inner city, bad genetics leading to all sorts of health issues, extreme sports, motorcycles, and the list goes on. Incidentally, my doctor told me that his father, who was a share cropper in Virginia at one point in his life, started smoking when he was 15, and lived to be 100! My doctor surmised that he enjoyed smoking, and it relaxed him. Being happy does wonders for one's health, it would seem.

So, getting to the revolt part of the title, at what point will Americans say ENOUGH!!? Will we hit a critical point where people won't take this anymore, or are we merely frogs in the figurative and progressively heated water? I guess I am particularly enraged by the unjustified demoncrat impeachment of Trump, and their absolutely totalitarian approach to everything. As Americans and gun owners, we're fuqued if there isn't some political purge of the demoncrat autocrats in 2020.

Yes I do think something will happen before too long. It will be violent. The dems are intent on a commie dictatorship, and they will not let anything stand in their way. Witness their actions of the last few years.
If we allow ourselves to be disarmed, then the camps ARE our future without a doubt.

as of next year, all tobacco products will be sold only to those 21 or older.

I'm an occasional cigar smoker at best - but come on. Then again, by the rationale that the youngins' brains aren't developed enough to make a reasonable decision at 18, maybe we raise the ages on voting and selective service registration. Its all bullshit. Its all about control. There needs to be that natural point where both sides can agree, "OK, these mooks are going too far and its affecting all of us." but then again, so long as the almighty church of free stuff keeps kicking over the bennies, it may be some time before that ever happens.

considering that democrat brains never develop past adolescence we probably need to make a test to make sure we disenfranchise idiots and those who pay no taxes.

I believe their will be a tipping point but not quite sure when that will happen. We all (admittedly or not) generally like the lives we lead but I think most are getting really fed up with the bulllshit moves the dems have been pulling for the past 5 - 10 years. It'll most likely come to a head soon if the progressive/socialist/communist narrative from the left does't change in the very near future. I hope it does not come to that but a civil war could be in the making if things don't change soon.

That is because back then, the tobacco wasn't laced will all of the chemicals to make it totally addictive so you have to buy more and more cigarettes to feed your habit. The same chemicals that cause all of the cancers and illnesses you see from smoking these day. Being in VA, he probably got it fresh from a local farm and rolled his own. He lived to 100 in spite of smoking, not because of it.

Pot is OK though I'm pretty sure in liberal land. Won't be long prohibition will be back upon us.

As long as the WiFi and Data are on, the local sports team is the talk of the town, the food stores are stocked with there favorite foods and spirits people will keep accepting what the over lords hammer down. Its a disruption in the normal everyday that might wake up a bunch, the other half are just plain lost, don't be lost.

The lesson I took away was that smoking is good for you, so I immediately started furiously going through packs of Marlboros. But it's okay, I take off the filters first.

This is true. As long as people get their Budweiser and Big Macs all will be okay. I'll snap when they take away my BK Whoppers and IPA.

How many people start smoking in their mid/late 20's or older?

Very few......this in part speaks to the simple fact that younger people are not mature enough/mentally equipped to make good decisions

Its the same argument for why 17 year olds shouldnt be allowed to vote
I think they should be banned outright. I'm not one of those "legalize everything" retards for the simple fact that I don't want to be subjected to repercussions of other people's stupidity. As you said, nobody starts smoking as an adult. They start in their early teens because they want to be cool. Banning cigarettes would be one thing they could actually do to protect children.

Imagine if you will a country with socialized healthcare. How much of our money is going to be wasted on smoking related health problems?

I’ll accept this when they raise the voting age to 30....

This is what I'm getting out of this-

I don't mind an additional tax on product X, so long as it doesn't affect me directly because I don't use it anyway
We need to the gov't to ban product X
We need to revolt against the gov't

Agreed.

Pittman-Robertson Act of 1937, I believe-an 11% tax on guns and ammo. We pay for it indirectly, and it adds up to billions for the treasury.

You need to get your facts straight!! That money goes back Fish and Wildlife Agencies for Wildlife research, Habitat Improvement, Hunter Safety Courses.

It's called free will, the price of freedom. Believe me, I can't stand the expense or the smell, but ban this and that, and where do you end up? Guns are being labelled a health problem.

Your ability to figure out what motivates me is matched only by your brilliant response above. Inept. Feel free to flame away, but I think I'll stick to the topic here on in.
