Harvard Sportsmen's Club

Renewed today with 2 hours work credit: Timestamps show these were taken around 9:30 AM where we met around 7:30 AM and started clearing around 7:45 AM. We did a little more work just after these photos were taken and so I was able to record 2 hours in total.

Great day at the club today. Virtually no one actually shooting - guess the cold scared people away. Was finally able to score the 65 and spent a few hours doing Appleseed work with 22s. Finished up the day by dusting off an old carry piece at a plate rack. The wind wasn't too bad - and moving around kept you warm.

My favorite time to go to the range is cold, rainy, snowy days. I avoid warm sunny days at all costs.

I would love to see if people would be interested in starting a modest pool for steel targets on a rotating basis. Like wearing different sneakers each day, if you rotate it has the appearance of less wear distributed over the whole collection. If everyone who could do so pitched in just $1 then we could buy some of different sizes for a wholesale price and rotate them to avoid wear.

Oh we got a budget and the stands are the same so yeah, the one hanging currently is 1 inch and already had 1/8 or more crown to it so flipped it over, One more stand and kit and a couple spare plates. Won't be installed until spring, it has to be buried about 5 feet down.

Totally killer.

I've given this some thought. Retired guys have the time to think about stuff like this. I think this MGM thing is the best idea so far. By the way, the club was empty yesterday for the first time in a long time. Probably the shitty weather.

the mental state of some members is truly something else, from the latest email that just came:

"I’m getting really tired of putting the barrels at the Class 3 range back against the berm. DO NOT move them to the middle of the range and shoot at them. You will put rounds out of the club and get us shut down."

Maybe some folks move the barrels to use them as obstacles to walk around, and not shoot at them......

Maybe some shooters use them as obstacles but I've seen some with targets stapled on them and cans on top of them.
As long as they are up against the berm, that's fine *I think*.
I only use them as obstacles, or I put my 8ft wood target stands in them up against the berm for support - never used them as targets.

Hello, I’m looking to join the club and am planning on coming to the IDPA public practice next week. As I’m still relatively new are there any recommendations on what to bring/not?

Come with thick skin and a good attitude. Leave the 40 Cal and anything communist at home.

General guidance is a stiff belt, OWB holster, and 3 magazines for your pistol in addition to a teachable attitude and 150-200 rounds of ammo. Electronic ears are good, but not necessary.

So next target, bigger or smaller?
My vote is for larger.

My rationale is we could use multiple smaller chains to rig it versus two larger chains that would increase the chances of someone shooting the links and decoupling the target from the stand.

If we used a smaller target it would be less durable and would get plinked into oblivion a little faster than a larger and girthier target.
