"I must be a good shot."

My 249g drone flying 200’ over someone’s yard is no threat to anyone.

Mmm. Maybe. Maybe not. What I know is - if some helio-chopter is hovering over my land at 200 or 500 feet, I'm gonna notice and take a tail #. I can track it via FlightRadar on my phone. I can call the local airport and/or FAA.

Hard to do ANY of that with a drone. Is it just some guy tooling around or a bad actor of some sort??? Right now, we have no way of knowing. I suspect a LOT of drone rules/laws are coming down the pike in the next couple of years. Mostly b/c droniators are just doing whatever the hell they want.

real law is brutal, as any registered drone is factually legally equal to a real aircraft. and it is a federal crime to shoot down airplanes. so, well. tbd.

there were interesting threads about it on drone forums, of who factually owns the airspace above the land you falsely presume to be your property. :)
the legal BS in this country now is beyond any comprehension.
Branca breaks it down in a relatively short summation of a much longer video.

Do people generally have or not have 'air rights' below a certain height over their property?
read this, of google more.
because of the drones to fit into the general aviation segment - well, it is murky of where it gets into harassment category, but this country strictly prohibits individual vigilante actions against those who harass you, so keep that in mind. not in the commie shithole of MA anyway, they will rip you to pieces.

A f'n hate drones. They are a complete invasion of privacy. And they can easily be weaponized. Restricted commercial use okay. Search and rescue, you bet. But for the average Joe, nope.

I know I'm in the minority on this one but those things need to go. No way anyone will ever convince me that they need one for recreational use. You have a right to fly and film over my head? Well then I should have the right to physically remove it. Those small little annoying things are not planes and they should not be treated the same. I bet I would be arrested in a nano second if I had a gopro tied to the end of a 75 foot stick and I dangled it in your backyard.

I came very close to shooting one out of the sky that was flying over an area I was camping. National forest. Pretty sure you can't use them there.

Asking because I genuinely do not know -- Do people generally have or not have 'air rights' below a certain height over their property?
The 20th century view was that "air rights extend to the airspace above the surface that could reasonably be used in connection with the land." What's "reasonable" now that we've progressed from putting circles of film in model rockets to modern drones is a question that courts are eventually going to have to answer.

Not unless your neighbors rat you out. For anyone to come forward and charge you with shooting down their drone… they would have to admit that it was THEIR drone. Nobody seems willing to do that right now for some reason.
The video that I capture on my controller will be proof enough.

If it can be shot down with a shotgun, it's too f***ing low.
Mine is at about 300’. FAA will only sort me take it up to 400’. Good luck trying to hit it at 300’ up — you probably won’t even be able to see it.

Feds just banned drones (at night?) in 17 (I think) NJ counties and law enforcement has authority to shoot them down. This could get really funny really fast. . . as long as no planes or helicopters suffer serious harm/crash.

But I suspect this is a "hey, let's do that too" and it isn't some conspiracy event. Just tools who lack imagination to do something unique.

Most law enforcement have no ability to shoot down a drone. Many don’t have a shotgun, just a patrol rifle, and if they do have a shotgun, the only loads they have are buckshot and slugs.

Shooting down a drone is easier said than done.

I have $5 on a farm boy with a badge, a 14" 1187, a box of #4 Federal flight control, and an understanding chief

1) hitting a drone with buckshot at any significant distance is basically impossible.

2) most police these days didn’t grow up on a farm or shooting guns. Many of them did serve in the military, but very few, if any, were taught by the military to shoot skeet or trap.

And they have to IDENTIFY IT AS A DRONE before firing. How many morons are gonna be shooting at legit aircraft even though they can check that pretty quickly???? Forget even hitting. THey're gonna JUST START SHOOTING!

So, I’m thinking my compressed air antenna launcher is the way to go. I’m trying to get an antenna line over a tall pine when I unexpectedly snag this drone…

Tell that to the husband of the woman sunbathing topless in her yard. [smile]
The guy went flapping his gums on a police body cam. Yeah so he incriminated himself pretty quickly.
Yup. STFU. SSS.
300’ up in the air? Good luck with that. And I hope you have a good lawyer.
So, now you're avoiding the NES trap/skeet shooters. You said 200' first; now 300' . [smile]

How are we as a people supposed to get ready for 'the future' with flying cars and hoverboards if everyone just starts taking potshots at anything that flies?

Said the drone doesn't record video, but they still found him? Sounds like a case of stfu and prove it was me.
They knew location. They asked him if he shot it and he replied.

I think most of us would rather shoot it down to be sure. :)

Some of us try to make sure there is not anything to see satellites don’t see.

The lesson here is to usae one of those high pressure 308 air rifles so there can be no firearm charge.

Like the Drone Defender tho
