Illegal workers taken to Devens

Gary, how do you know that some of those kids didn't sneak in with their parents? I'm sure that some of them ARE anchor babies, but as far as I'm concerned, that means that the parent gets the choice of leaving them here with someone who IS in the country legally or taking them with them back home.

Heck, I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation! Leave the kid here with a chance to grow up in the greatest country in the world, or keep the kid with his family and the option to return when he's 18?

I don't and it's no doubt a possibility. Of course the ones born here should have birth certificates, right? As to any others, I agree with you.

Yep.

Fortunately we don't have to make that choice.

Violent crime is higher than MA or national averages. Property crime is lower than national avg., but higher than MA avg.

Don't forget, New Bedford has been home to some notable crimes. Lizzie Borden, Big Dan's, the gay bar shootings last year, the Foxy Lady shootings. It's probably not as bad as Boston, but there's some crime.

Ms. Borden performed her unlicensed surgery in Fall River, I believe.

I have been told by some news photographers who cruise the streets of Boston for a living that they wouldn't think of doing the same thing in Lawrence, Brockton or New Bedford.

"I want to be clear that the Commonwealth had no role in the criminal investigation or immigration enforcement action taken by the federal government in New Bedford," Patrick said.

I hope the Feds decide to make an example out of Mass and "Dickhead Deval" now that he made a moronic comment like that. I hope they run a new raid every time they get enough space to house them all...

Peter Blute was talking about this today on his show, and his pet liberal, Paul Healey, referred to those arrested as "victims". I called up the show and gave him hell and got him to admit that he shouldn't have called them victims.

I pointed out that she came her of her own free will and accord, and that we didn't send any kidnap squads to Equador or Brazil to kidnap workers for our leather factories. Peter mentioned that one woman paid her coyote about $4300 to bring her across the border and someone else even more to get her to that point! If their countries are so poor, how does someone save up that kind of money to illegally enter another country? And why?

They "contract" with the coyotes to pay them. You ever notice how certain areas of states have clusters of certain ethnicities? The coyotes have collection agents set up to make sure that the illegals pay the debts off. Often times when the illegal is paid, the payment for the coyote is already deducted.
It's a syndicate that Don Corleone would be proud of. Employment, housing, vehicles, documents, drugs, you name it.

They don't need to run these raids everytime they have space. What they need to do is absolutely, ruthlessly destroy with vigor those who are hiring the illegals. This guy who was raking in big profits on military contracts thru illegal labor should be made an example of. He should be ruined financially and put so deeply into debt thru fines that recovery of anything close to being called an existence is out of reach, and the aftermath made a public spectacle. Sorry if that's harsh, but he's a pusher, plain and simple.

Come over LEGALLY just like my Grandparents ,2 aunts, and mother did..58 years ago! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! [angry]

Amen!

Thats all we ask. Is that so bad? My grand parents and both of my wife's parents came here the proper way and worked hard to learn english, become part of the American community and make great lives for themselves (and us!)

Why is it so hard for so many Americans to insist on enforcing the immigration laws?!? It is our duty. It protects the rights of true Americans. The rights that we all hold so dear that so many others around the world shit all over!

Granting amnesty to illegals not only rewards them for their illegal activities it basically rubs it in the face of all those who came to our great country through the propper process. Not to mention the secutity / potential illness issues...

JEEZ THIS TOPIC MAKES ME ANGRY! I am getting off my soap box now to have a beer.

We can always dream. That's what MLK did.

I have a dream that one day America will be America again.

Check me if I'm wrong, but didn't I see a State Police cruiser escorting the buses?

All four of my grandparents immigrated (legally) from Russia. I have absolutely nothing against immigrants. Immigrants are part of what makes America great.

But we do need to follow the rule of law. The law may need to be changed. There's a process to do that.

Blute is on 830 AM in the morning, I think. Be aware that he is also
an anti gun hack (supposedly he supported brady bill etc) but at least he's
tolerable to listen to compared to Finneran.

It's a Worcester station, Lynne, so you may not get it, but it's WCRN 830 AM. Former (Republican, IIRC) Congresscritter Peter Blute is the host, with his pet liberal Paul Healey.

Thanks guys. I tried getting it, but no luck. Ah well...

Did everyone see our great Senators in action yesterday? Kerry and Kennedy just amazed me. Kennedy said "If there is ever an example or a reason for a new immigration bill, and anybody wants to know why, come to New Bedford”. Are you serious? This event played right into Kennedy’s hands; perhaps he organized the raid! You see, the Senate is now debating just what benefits illegal aliens are going to receive with their “earned amnesty” and Senator Ted is chairing the committee.

Well this statement "If there is ever an example or a reason for a new immigration bill, and anybody wants to know why, come to New Bedford” would be true if you were talking about why we need tougher border patrol and stiffer penalties for hireing and harboring illigal imigrants. The only illigal immigrants we should have to worry about this far north should be from Cananda.

I'd say the new immigrations bill we need is worded as followed:

Enforcement, Enforcement, Enforcement.

I liked Kerry's little line about how this could have been solved by just arresting the people that ran the company leaving the illegals out of this.

Ya we won't want to hurt the poor ILLEGAL aliens feelings! Or maybe take way their parents.....

SUCK it up...GD bleeding heart Dem's[angry]

If someone had said that 200 years ago they would have been hanged for sedition.

Oh Teddy dear? Shut the F up, you bloviated, pickled liver, liberal SOB.

I really don't care that kids were left here while mom was picked up and shipped to Texas. Does that sound cold? Tough. First, the little rug rats weren't left completely alone. And please don't tell me that someone who's making $7.00 an hour (or whatever they were making) can afford day care. Please! The majority of these people live 8 to 10 families in one damn apartment or house. Talk about extended family. If mom can't leave the kid, then pack up the kid's things and ship them off to join mom.

I'm so GD tied of these F'ing bleeding heart libs trying to "save the shildren" that I could scream! They broke the damn law by coming here in the first damn place - SHIP THEM HOME! ...other than that, I have no strong feelings about the subject.

The thing that pisses me off is that rounding up the illegals is pretty much putting a band aid on a bullet wound. As long as we have people like Mr. Insolia, and worse, people further up, using illegal aliens as a resource to make money for themselves, it ain't gonna stop! These people are pushers and enablers, and the enemy or America and its laws! Looks like we need some Pentagon generals destroyed pronto, think it'll happen?:

Pentagon passes buck: Not our job -- No red flags raised on factory visits
By Jay Fitzgerald
Boston Herald General Economics Reporter
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - Updated: 12:38 AM EST

Pentagon inspectors didn’t report on alleged illegal hiring practices and wretched working conditions at a New Bedford sweatshop because it wasn’t their job, a spokesman said yesterday.
“It’s not our responsibility,” said Dick Cole, a spokesman for the Defense Contractors Management Agency, which monitors federal contractors as they perform work for the Pentagon.
Meanwhile, President Bush was forced to defend the raid on his trip through Latin America, telling reporters in Guatemala on Monday that immigrants must abide by the law.
“Just so you know, when we enforce the law we do so in a fair and rational way,” he said. “People are welcome, but under the law.”
Cole acknowledged that Pentagon inspectors regularly visited New Bedford’s Michael Bianco Inc. before last week’s massive raid by Homeland Security agents, who found hundreds of illegal immigrants toiling in “deplorable” conditions as they made backpacks for U.S. troops.
But he said inspectors, who visited Bianco two to four times a week, were focused on ensuring that the firm was making quality products and meeting Pentagon deadlines for deliveries, not on making sure Bianco was complying with federal wage, safety and hiring laws.
Critics of the Pentagon couldn’t believe that Department of Defense inspectors didn’t see anything at Bianco that would have raised red flags.
“They just can’t be that blind,” said Stephen Wishart, a researcher at Unite HERE, a union that has harshly criticized the Pentagon’s contracts with garment firms across the country.
Wishart said it’s common practice for inspectors at other government-contract garment sites to walk around factories and mingle with workers.
But Cole said inspectors don’t see everything that’s going on in factories. They work on loading docks, checking products after they come off assembly lines, and don’t meet with workers that often, he said.
In a statement last week, Bianco said Pentagon inspectors were there at least four times a week and the company contended that’s proof it ran a “satisfactory” operation-that even inspectors didn’t complain about before last week’s raid.

Well in my ~11 years working in the "military industrial complex", I saw and met numerous DCASR inspectors. It really wasn't part of their job to figure out WHO was working on the products or their status. Their sole job (as the story above notes) is making sure that the quality of the work is acceptable and on time. They are basically QA Inspectors and nothing more than that.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't report anything suspicious, just that it truly is not part of the job description of that agency. Should it be?? - Don't know, but that is a whole 'nother question.
