Do I need a suppressor for 300 blk for subsonic or not? I am in Massachusetts lol.
If you own a 300 blk and you are able to own a silencer, the answer is absolutely yes. You’ll love it. Subsonic without a silencer sounds like a 45 ACP as mentioned above.Do I need a suppressor for 300 blk for subsonic or not? I am in Massachusetts lol.
Any of the 190gr + loads should stay subsonic out of a 16" barrel at any reasonable altitude. An issue you may have (besides the can in MA problem) is that a 16" barrel is likely to make your subs go super, so not so quiet.

Have you had this experience? If so, what ammo were you shooting? An issue you may have (besides the can in MA problem) is that a 16" barrel is likely to make your subs go super, so not so quiet.
Generally a barrel longer than 10” is not productive for 300blk. One can get one and keep as a pistol if she is too much hassle, but go with 16” is not really a good idea.Any of the 190gr + loads should stay subsonic out of a 16" barrel at any reasonable altitude.
Your question should be how do I get out of MA so I can buy and own silencersDo I need a suppressor for 300 blk for subsonic or not? I am in Massachusetts lol.
I don't have any 300 BLK guns but was looking into a Mini 14 in 300 BLK, but I saw some chatter about this issue (subs going super) on one of the Mini specific forums, so I put that idea aside. I'm now thinking about a CMMG Dissent in the shorter barrel, if I can scrape up the funds...Have you had this experience? If so, what ammo were you shooting?
Curious because I’ve never shot factory subs. But I know of others that shoot 200s and 220s in 16” barrels and they’re perfectly subsonic. Also quiet AF.

I do have a Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm that I like to shoot suppressed and had this same issue. 9mm in 147 gr is supposedly "subsonic" but produces a slight "crack" on my setup (16" barrel). Going up to 158 gr seems to fix it but is harder to find, typically need to order online.
This is one rabbit hole I'd never thought I'd go down...but after getting into the 300 Blk I love the round and its perfect for suppressing. The longer we go in barrel length the heavier we have to go in bullets for factory loads, in general. But if you have ever considered reloading or hand loading, it’s like unlocking the cheat codes. You can really get into tweaking some things in your load and your rifle setup to get some crazy results. I have a 300 blackout load that’s a 115 grain bullet that is subsonic and would fully cycle one particular AR15 that was set up for it. Sounded like a pellet gun and was really cheap to shoot. Perfect for the back yard.
I’m thinking the same thing about the bolt gun. Trail boss and hard cast lead slugs of almost any weight are gonna be subsonic and quiet as a whisper. Won’t cycle an auto loader but perfect for a bolt gun. This is one rabbit hole I'd never thought I'd go down...but after getting into the 300 Blk I love the round and its perfect for suppressing.
Reloading....its simple. Dont even need to lube the cases, and likely length doesn't change much either. Ton of different powders, and some that I use for 44mag which is a staple of mine, I'll always have.
I'm funding a lot of 300 blk goodies right now and likely an SBR soon once I get around to building it, and I see a 30 cal can down the road for sure.
I also want to buy a 300 blk bolt gun just to have as well. Thinking a Ruger American Gen 2 Ranch or something like that. Id like something with a dedicated short action, that also takes a can.
Not to take a detour here but what is the status on reloading parts availability. I know primers were hard to get a couple of years back, when I was thinking about getting into this.
Small Pistol, Rifle and Large Pistol are back in stock everywhere and pricing is somewhat downward, but pretty much double what 1K used to be. 60-75 per 1K ish.Primers are available but double in price pre-pandemic. Everything else is available and along the same price increase as everything else due to building back better.
