MP15 Sport

What ammo do you guys use in the MP15s? brand? etc? is there indoor range type ammo also?

Whatever you want until you find something that your BCG/Buffer combo doesn't like. By indoor I assume you mean frangible? If so yes but it costs an arm a leg. Just find a range that allows 55gr fmj and stay away from using the M855 indoors.

MP15 ORC w Red/Green dot (cheaop but for now). Checked out the Sport, but for a little more, I feel I made a good decision. can't wait to hit the range! Any range rec. for CT from anyone?

Also are Oakleys good enough for eye protection or do i need specific glasses? Ear protection?

lol ... whatever u like thats comfortable to you and protects your eyes and ears. some prefer electronic ear muffs, some prefer in the ear, earbud style. good luck and shoot alot! =)

Thanks I like the in ear style less to store and looks like Oakleys are fine. Looking at a soft case cheap and good reviews. By the way those ecotech red dots are $$$$ wow

I don't like the ear buddy's for a few r
reasons .they can fall out and push wax etc in to your ear.. And they hurt mine after some time...You can buys ones that are molded to your ear$$$

Some mp15 love

What do you plan putting on it?

I'm getting a smooth free float for mine all I need is a bi pod. My front site is on the gas block. I'm not trying to be a dick , just think what you need/want and plan it out. See if you can shoot some ones with different parts you want so you don't by x part and never use it.

I shot my buddy's with a quad rail did not feel nice in my week hand .

Honestly, I'd hold off on the quad rail till later. Shoot it and try other people's to see what you like p, then invest in what suits you. Go green and come to a shoot. You'll get to shoot a very wide variety of equipment.

Get 20 rounders, they are just as fun.

Buy brass cases ammo and save it all. You will be reloading within a year.

I say get the S&W M&P15 Sport, an Aimpoint PRO, and spend the rest on magazines and ammo.
M&P Sport is around $700 and the Aimpoint PRO is around $400, that's only like $1,100 to $1,150.
So with the other $300 buy ammo. Then in the future get the magazines as you can.

The sport gets a bad wrap because it doesn't have a forward assist and an ejection port cover.
The AR15 forward assist causes more jams than it fixes & the port cover will open after the first shot anyway.

Are there magazine limits in CT? I know they all come with a 10rd, but 30 rd seems standard online, whats the CT law on this?

Cheaper to set up in a assembly line.
You pick a slower boxing rate or just boxing the same thing to every one.
Two different boxing set upsets cost more to design.

But most Likely they do it in runs of different versions for different state laws and it's just cheap to use the same box.

Is the MP15 ORC more advanced than the sport? does it have that forward assist etc that the sport is missing?

On a side note this being my first trip to the local shop I was shocked at how cool everyone was especially the other customers. Some offered advice on which AR, and one guy was just happy to see someone new getting his first AR. Unexpected but totally awesome. Is this typical or did I just run into a cool bunch today?

Depends on how much they like your money couple shops I go to always smile when they know the wallet is coming out.

A friend of mine recommended the mp 22 as a better starter rifle. Think I'm gonna go that direction. The deals at the shop are way cheaper and its way cheaper to shoot. Good idea?

I can get a MP 15 22 for $449 I think thats the way to go for now.

Its a little more fit for a starter rifle I think. anyone own and wanna give their opinion?

The M&P 15-22 is a very nice rifle. If you're going to be shooting indoors it may be your only option (.22lr is all I can shoot out of a rifle at my range). A lot (but not all) of the parts are interchangeable with "real" AR-15s so you can buy that Geissele trigger, drop it in your 15-22 and get to use it. When you get the "real" thing, just swap it over. Yeah, a $200 trigger on a $450 gun is crazy, but it lets you buy good parts for the real thing and use them in the meantime. Same goes for optics.

Or go with warwickben's suggestion and get both out of the same gun (lower) [smile].

I don't think I would modify it. The purpose is to have a starter rifle until I get comfortable enough to buy an AR. Thats my plan. I won't be upgrading it other than optics i can use on the AR when I get to that point.

Oh, I think comfort-wise you'll be comfortable with the real deal after you put about 2 mags down range. Skip the .22. That slickguns deal is pretty good. Or go green and keep your eyes open for one in the classifieds.
