NRA in Massachusetts

Another thing to realize is that your membership dollars do not support NRA lobbying. Lobbying can only be done with money donated to the NRA-ILA.

I am a member of NRA, GOAL, & USCCA. If you can do it, support at least the NRA & GOAL. They do fight a lot of battles for us, even though sometimes it seems like nothing gets done.

After you renew your membership, I would also recommend that you get yourself an NRA credit card. I have one of these and I love the fact that each purchase helps strengthen the NRA financially and thus helps sustain the organization over time.

You are a proud member of NRA. Now carry the card that shows your pride with each purchase. The NRA Platinum Edition® Visa Card offers you an introductory 0% APR* on purchases and balance transfers, and with each purchase you will help support National Rifle Association programs.

NRA Platinum Edition® Visa Card features include:

* Introductory 0% APR* for the first twelve billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers.
* Earn 1% cash back on every purchase you make.**
* No annual fee.
* Make your credit card payment online - FREE.
* Online account access - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
* Zero Liability protection for unauthorized use on your card.
* A portion of every purchase you make with your NRA Platinum Edition® Visa Card is given back to support the National Rifle Association.

And remember that WE ARE THE NRA so every person matters and if you get an NRA credit card, every purchase will matter too. I think it's an awesome and easy way to help fund the organization with all of your usual purchases (gasoline, food, clothes, etc.).

I'm not trying to sell tickets here. But I am on a Friends of NRA committee and we are holding a banquet to benefit the NRA.At the speel the NRA rep gave us. He said that half the money raised here in MA comes back to MA clubs to support thier clubs and programs. last year it was in excess of $200,000. In order to get the grants from NRA you have to apply. Those that support the program have a better chance of getting a grant approval. GOAL does have support from the NRA. GOAL is doing the job for NRA here in PRM. I would recommend that you at least renew your membership. If you want to do more buy a banquet or raffle ticket! The next time I renew it will be a life mebership on the easy pay plan. I don't have a bottomless wallet, but I help where I can.
I can't understand how the gun and hunting laws win in this state. Everyone I talk to supports guns and hnting etc. But that seems to be all they do. When it comes time for a vote, they don't seem to have the time. Hey i'm just ranting. Thanks for listening!

While what the NRA does politically in this state is not much to nil, when they DO run a post card campaign or sends letters about pending bills, it usually works. They do however, as some have already stated, help out the clubs and junior shooters. And sometimes I think that last part is the most important. Getting junior shooters involved and educating them about firearms is planting seeds that will hopefully grow and sprout the next generation of strong 2A supporters - some of whom might even wind up sitting on the hill writing legislation.

They may send post cards but my SOS letter to the office of Wayne La Pierre asking that the NRA investigate the possibiloity of using the federal courts to explain the concept of FOB to the MA Attorney general went unanswered - not even a form letter reply.

Sounds as if you understand the problem EXACTLY.

Lazy, soulless people who can't be bothered voting or otherwise getting involved have no one but themselves to blame when the leftists take away their rights. Screw em'!

Some friends of mine have this attitude, last week I walked out of their house in disgust telling them that their apathy was pathetic. I'm still not sure if I wiil return.

My sportsman club has it insurance though the nra and we save a ton of money. The nra need every member they can get. and i not 100 % but think they help fund goal. So renew and sigh up as many people you can. I am a life member and a recruiter for the nra. we need all the help we can get.to fight the good fight

I'm an NRA life member and a member of GOAL also.
Put plain and simple, we're in deep trouble without either of those two organizations. The NRA has helped our local clubs with range improvements and tries to keep us covered on a National level.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I find that GOAL has saved our butts locally a zillion times over. Also, how often are you solicited for donations from GOAL.............I get very very few requests for money from GOAL and all (or most) politics being local, they're the "biggest bang for the buck".

I understand all of your points but please answer these questions before I send in my renewal check.

When the Mass legislature screwed gun owners and the EOPS started publishing a "list", where was the NRA?

When the Attorney General forced through legislation that gives him incredible power to regulate firearm ownership, where was the NRA?

When the national AWB sunset, yet remained alive and well in MA, where was the NRA?

I'll probably renew based on the many valid reasons you all mentioned above, but damn it, why don't they at least make a showing in MA? I'd like a little more for my $$$ than a magazine subscription and the satisfaction of knowing that I "helped" at the national level. In case you didnt notice, national firearm laws and second amendment rights are subject to interpretation here in MA. I'd like to see such a powerful organization as the NRA start to put some pressure on the moonbats here where they are hurting us the most.

Check the NRA insurance - based on the info I had when checking club insurance options, I think you'll find that any suit brought by a club member (which is probably the most likley source of a personal injury suit) is not covered. Ditto for hunting accidents or accidents involving a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The NRA insurance is not a particularly good deal - which is not suprising when you consider in contains an addiitonal agency fee built into the price for the NRA's cut.

The AG did not "force through legislation." He use existing legislation and a reach to conclude that he could define any gun sale he did not like as an "unfair an deceptive trade practice." The NRA was not there with help for a case to fight this, nor did the NRA respond to my request that they get involved in oppsition the AG's rather unique redefinition of the FOB concept.

OK so he did not "force through legislation" but he DID rather generously interpret the law and there was no one to stop him. Incrementalism without resistance has empowered the antis here in MA. The NRA should at minimum be advertising to gun owning voters when this type of action takes place. I am obviously far from an expert in this area so I could use the expertise of the NRA to help me determine what course of action to take in expressing my displeasure with the current situation. As some have mentioned, letters to the NRA too often go unanswered...

Sorry but I'm not going to simply follow the masses here and blindly support an organization that does not offer tangible benefits to those in my locality.

It is my understanding that the initial lawsuit filed by GOAL against the AG's Regs was FUNDED BY NRA!

The court ruled that GOAL had "no legal standing" and that was the end of their official fight in the matter.

There is a lot that NRA does in MA by funding GOAL to take the ball and run with it (using NRA money).

How selfish and self-indulgent of you. I'm embarrassed for you that you could even post that after all the data that's been posted in support of NRA. [frown]

Perhaps it's best if you didn't renew. It sounds like you'd be happier among the apathetic masses. No worries, we'll still carry the ball and you can sit back and bitch each time the antis make a try for your rights while others have to do your fighting for you. [angry]

If asking questions and requesting information is "selfish and self-indulgent", then I suppose I am guilty. Your "embarrassment" smacks of elitism and an attitude of superiority that is generally missing among firearm owners I know and people on this board in general. I find it particularly presumptuous of you to catergorize me as apathetic and suggest that I "sit back and bitch" while others do my fighting for me. Your post is designed to exclude me based on my opinions and villify me simply because require more facts. Your attitude is as bad as the antis who insist that firearm ownership is evil without thinking or questioning the facts.

I will continue to weigh my decision based on the answers to the pointed questions I have asked. Should I decide to renew, it will be done privately, and not because you or anyone else has shamed me into renewing. I will also continue to ask questions and demand facts before supporting any cause, group, individual, or organization philosophically or financially.

It would have been very easy to find someone with "Standing" - just fund a suit by a dealer. Someone dropped the ball on this one big time.

NRA/GOAL member here .

We Should bitch TO the NRA for more Ma activism. But as members , not outsiders. Join. A victory here - Shall Issue - would be historical.

Bill Clinton said the reason Al Gore Lost ( including his home state ) was the NRA. For that alone they should be funded for ever.
