I’m looking for a place between Braintree and the Sagamore Bridge to transact a firearm purchase. Unfortunately, the seller is not a member of any clubs, and I am not a member of any in the area. I’m looking for a place where there are no cameras and no one is going to get too excited about the transaction taking place (i.e., where no potential onlooker is going to freak during an examination of the firearm, the completion of the forms, etc.).

Any suggestions?

How about the parking area in front of Zero Hour Arms. After you are done, wander inside and check it out, it's a neat (and different kind of) shop.

NOBODY in their right mind drives thru that poor excuse for a road unless they are headed there and thus no scared lib is going to call the PD on you.

LOL

Road? What road?

That's a road, is it? I thought it was a combination of an abstract art piece and an erosion experient.

Personally, I thought it was a pathway after being hit with mortar fire for 8 hours straight!

Great if you own a dune-buggy!

LOL, that road SUCKS when you're driving a loaded truck. I need a massage & a fifth of Jack Daniels after a day of hauling back there.

(I will need to actually stop & browse at some point, but I can't while working.)

On route 3, going south, get off at exit 16a (the second 16 exit, the one that says only "Weymouth") and go to the first stop light. You'll see a Honda dealership on the left side of the road. Turn left at that light and you'll see "Hunters Trading Post".

They have a decent selection of both long guns and pistols. Friendly people. Their prices aren't anything to write home about, but they are fair enough.

Just try not to listen to the owner. He can usually be found pompously holding court over some poor unsuspecting customer and telling them every untrue old wives tale about guns, sometimes driectly contradicting new gun owner's manuals. I can't bear to go in there anymore myself.

Emoto,

Really? Huh. I haven't had the good fortune to have the money to buy a new gun since I bought my S&W a year ago (before I found HTP) so I haven't bought from him, but I buy ammo and targets and haven't seen that!

Thanks for the heads up to take what he says with a grain of salt.

Sorry to say so. Maybe I just am unlucky enough to have been in at the wrong times (and I haven't been in there often) but when he started telling me to my face that the manual for my Single Six was wrong about dry firing and how he's been around guns for decades blah blah blah, that was about enough for me.

Not saying it couldn't be worth stopping in there now and again, but be cautious. Oh, and just for fun, call them up sometime and ask him if he has a particular gun, then when he says yes, ask him how much it is. When he refuses to tell you, ask him for a ballpark figure because you don't live nearby and don't want to drive all the way out there if the price is out of line. I'll buy you a beer if he gives you any clue whatsoever how much he charges for anything! [rofl]

Emoto - it seems that you and I have been in Hunter's at the same time. LOL! He drives me NUTS the way he lectures you when you walk in the door. I've stopped going there and send DH if necessary.

I heard, BTW, that he might be going out of business.

Wow. This is all interesting. I've not had an experience like that there. But I can tell you that it's the ONLY local place to buy ammo, and I'd sorely miss it if it left. Otherwise I'd have to drive to North Attleboro or Four Seasons.

If anyone else knows another place near quincy/braintree/weymouth, etc.

I went in there several years ago - HTP - and wanted to sell him three revolvers. He offered me $250. I said no thanks, took them to Four Seasons, and got $550 for the lot. Never been back to HTP since then.
